BMW Z21 Just 4/2

How about a mid engined take on the seven with minimal bodywork?

This thing was designed in 91 and shown in 95. It probably predates the Atom and 340.

It was first seen at the Tokyo motor show in 1995, designed by Robert Powell - I'm not brainy, just got a book with it in!

PS, Ian - Where is 'sunny cornwall' if you know, tell me, cos I want to live there!

The missus keeps asking me the same question, where's the sun you promised.
Mind you,she was living in Scotland when we met,so even the 24 hour drizzle is an improvement

middy thoughts

I was considering a middy option along the lines of the original seven. The panels on this little sketch are alloy with the nosecone and engine cover in fibreglass.

My chassis thoughts are basically a better triangulated book style design from the front to the seat backs. From there 4x2 14g tubes make an engine surround much like the original Lancia Stratos. In other words three lateral tubes across the front and rear of the engine bay top and one across the bottom of the seat back. Tubes going up the sides of the seat back and along the engine bay sides complete the engine bay structure. The luggage area is similar to the book design in concept.

Thoughts guys? Rescued attachment middypic.JPG

In this day and age of hot FWD cars, I think this is the direction Locosts should be going.
To hell with inline motors and prop shafts! Just buy a FWD wreck for the donor (or even just a front cut), and stuff the whole engine/trans/suspension behind the seats. Then you can really seal the tunnel for strength.
Everything will be relatively current, with easily located spares etc.
How many times have you read here and elsewhere how rare Escort/Cortina/Sierra parts are becoming.
Front engined Locosts are as antiquated as the sum of their parts!
Look at sgrabber's, KB's and AlanB's sites for direction. Apart from engine and engine location, just about everything else Locost would apply.
Go for it cymtriks, but don't go over board with your steel sections.
Post more pics and lets bring the Locost into the 21st century!

Cheers, Rorty.

By all means, Cymtriks, go for it!

Looking at pictures of the Sylva Mojo once, it struck me that many of the panels could be made of aluminum:

Maybe the second car; my wife wants one, too.
