Painting New Uprights?
Morning All,
My new brand new Sierra uprights arrived this morning. I was wondering if they need painting or not. I assume on the production car they dont get
painted as i've seen some pretty rusty second hand ones.
Is a quick coat of hammerite recommended?
Thanks.

If they have a smooth fresh surface I would steer away from Hammerite as I have found it chips off pretty easily. I used Dulux Trade gloss and it
retains resistance to stones etc. Frost also sell some good chassis black products. All IMHO of course!!

i use Hammerite it true it chips but i add petrol to it and it makes it shine more and stops it chiping.

You could have them powder coated,

It's purely cosmetic, but worth doing for the finish

I powder coated my rusty old ones (after blasting them)
Satin black is supposed to be the toughest - I went for silver, but without a clear topcoat as he thought it would chip to easily

of course mine isn't on the road yet so I don't know how they'll last....

second the others on hammerite, there are MUCH MUCH better paints.
What's the toughest paint you know of........................
floor paint of course, so use that!
I use it as engine paint and it takes years to chip
Retro RWD is the way forward...........automotive fabrication, car restoration, sheetmetal work, engine conversion
retro car restoration and tuning

Thanks guys, lots of options to go at there! I like the ideal of the Dulux trade gloss, I might have some spare in the shed, no doubt magnolia though!
