sharing a car

chatting with my partner at work today and he came up with the idea of going halves on a toy, he has a part built viento and i have three different cars that im not getting very far with at the moment so i can see his point in buying something finished to hoon about in but although we are both adults i can see us sulking like 5 yr olds when a nice day presents itself and we both want to use it.we take turns working saturdays so we could alternate but who keeps it during the week etc.

If you have to question whether it will work then it probably won't work.

You never know though, if you and your partner are good mates as well as colleagues then go for it. Just be prepared to compromise a little.

oooh, remember the simpsons when they bart, millhouse, and martin buy a comic together!

personally i wouldn't. even if my best mate was wanting to go halfs on buying a flat, i wouldn't.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Hey, i called shot-gun on the kitten first

It could probably work if you worked out a rota - i.e week by week or similar and then swapped days that either one of you desperately wanted it......

he wants us to go halves on a supercharged atom and i am sorely tempted as buying one outright is well beyond me but half i could scrape together.

There are THREE of us sharing our Indy... it's not presented a problem really.

As long as you are thoughtful and diplomatic it's not going to be a problem. Saying that no-one else goes in ours apart from Keith

I know it sounds obvious, but if you do go for it...

MAKE A PROPER CONTRACT, get it signed and keep copies in safe places.

You might be best mates and work collegues but it really is the best protection - if you feel awkward asking for stuff in writing then it is probably a bad idea - imagine how awkward it would be if it all goes nasty over money later down the line.

If it was my best mate I'd do it for sure- but we have been very close since I was 6, so its a no brainer. even so I;'d still get a contract written up though to clarify understanding and protect against it ever ruining our friendship.
