Lancia Twin Cam power
How many horse powers would a lancia 1585cc twin cam with twin 40's produce?

I have a 2ltr FIAT twink and I didn't bother to use it as I was told it would be expensive to get more than 120bhp. So I fitted an Alfa V6
instead.

A Guy Croft tuned 1600 engine on twin 40's and using different cams, 4-2-1 exhaust, lightened flywheel, blueprinted etc. etc. produced 150bhp
@8000rpm and 124lbft of torque @ 5500rpm. Probably cost more per bhp than using something more modern that dosen't need modifying.
Drawback also is that they are relatively long stroke engines so won't rev that high.
Having said that you could buy the Volumex on fleabay, fit a 4 branch manifold and achieve the same sort of power.

using NA you will not get more than 100bhp per litre unless you spend silly money and possibly require the use of racing fuel (ie high octane). Afla
engines sound great thou and have good drivability

105bhp to 120bhp isquite easy from a 1600cc Twin cam.
My 1600cc engine made 90bhp at the wheels at 6,000rpm and there was probably more as it used to rev to way over 7K. I used twin Su`s and it was also
very tractable, certainly not a race motor. It had a 105TC head (bigger inlet valve), 3 angle seats, very basic porting (just a clean up), CR up a
touch, 2 litre cams and stock exhaust manifold.
Just a warning, quite a few Fiat OEM motor parts are now NLA, such as pistons, big end bolts. Aftermarket are available though.
