Bolt strength picture guide?
One of the fail points at SVA was because I used imperial bolts (to go into imperial seatbelt mounts!)...
The tester was not familiar with the markings on imperial bolts and was not happy that they didnt say 8.8...
Rather worrying..
So, does anyone have a simple picture guide explaining what the little symbols mean on imperial bolts....
Basically I need to prove that my bolts are rated equal or better to 8.8!

Thats pretty good...but does not give a direct comparison between metric anc imperial which he will need...
I could do the calculations to show that the relative strengths are the same....but I cant be bothered to explain that all to him unless I have to!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

will this do - if you scroll to the bottom it shows that grade 'S' has the same tensile strength as 8.8

Sounds like the tester is a bit of dickhead to be honest...AFAIK seat belt mounts are and have always been 7/16 UNF therefore would always have
imperial markings....
And even if I'm wrong about the 7/16 bit he still should be familiar with imperial markings.

No...he was a really friendly chap, ever so helpfull and very knowledgable. I cant wait for the retest so I can have another chat with him
Edited to say:
Can you even buy 7/16th UNF in any grade less than 8.8 equivilant....I have never seen anything with a lower grade (3 equally spaced lines)

mine are imperial marked and my tester didn't even bat an eyelid, if fact he didn't comment at all about any bolts apart from my gearbox
mount that i forgot to do up!
