Indyblade New Owner
shane159 - 18/8/15 at 05:36 AM

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd say "hello I'm Shane from Chesterfield, I've just picked up my new 2006 MK Indy, the car has a 2003 Honda CBR 954 engine fitted, it also has a few more trick bits like power commander, quickshifter for up & down changes, ITG filer, baffled sump, Wilwood front brakes, Gaz coilovers, full system stainless exhaust etc.
I bought the car off a friend, I've been trying to buy this car for over a year he wouldn't sell it me even though it's not moved out of his garage for 12 months. but with it being stood it is in need of some new rubbers on the upper & lower ball joints and CV boots.

I plan to service it this weekend weather dependent, unsure if anyone can help me? The engine doesn't seem to have a dip stick or oil viewing window, how do I tell if I have the correct amount of oil in?

The CBR manual says the engine needs 3.7ltr of 10w40 but would this now be different due to it having a baffled sump fitted?

Any help would be great thank you.

Few Pics:

As well as this forum I've tried to become a member of the MK Indy Owners Club forum, I've paid the £10 contribution but not heard anything from them, is this site still live?

Nice looking car! Welcome to the club - if you fancy a drive out at some point then give me a shout!

Sure I saw you out last night, I live on Handley Road, heard you before I saw you and the big grin If it wasn't you, you have a clone car.
You are welcome to pop in next time you are passing. While I am no expert, I can give the car a look over. PM me.

Haha yes that was me, I'm from Hollingwood, there's some good twisty county lanes round you so always go out testing round that way weather it's on a bike or in a car, I'll drop you a pm, would be nice to meet a few people with the same interest, I'm actually going with a friend this week to view one for him.

twybrow - 18/8/15 at 08:24 AM

I am wondering if we should try to do some sort of local meet? There seem to be quite a few of us within the area (I am further south in Morley, but still not far away)....?

I'd be up for that as long as it's dry haha.

That would be good, there are at least six of us in the Chesterfield local area. However the engine swap is (predictably) taking far
longer than anticipated, not be finished before the "Summer" weather is gone

There is someone with a ST with a ZX9R engine in Inkersall, he goes by the alias of "Cadburys Man" on here.

There should be an oil sight glass on the clutch lever side at the bottom of the black casing. I use about 4L of oil in mine with the AB billet sump.

Think I might have spotted him in the past, is his also orange?

Great looking car!

As someone said, theres a sight glass for the oil on the clutch cover at the bottom

As for the volume needed, just fill it until it shows 1/2 to 3/4 up the sight glass and it should be fine

I'd also highly recommend fitting an oil pressure gauge if it hasn't already got one. Its a great early warning for problems and will save your engine if you spot the pressure drop off.

shane159 - 25/9/15 at 08:30 AM

Thanks mate, I spotted it in the end, I had to remove the nose cone though. I haven't got a pressure gauge yet but it's on my list (lists gets larger daily )

Yes buddy sadly. I noticed you on here... you done the same? Looks like kit cars are the way forward haha. Spent an absolute fortune on the Evo in the end, and sprint series goal posts still kept moving and allowing those with deep pockets to take the wins in the end.

Gutted to see you have moved on as your Evo looked epic. But that is a stunning kit car. Bike engined? Which models would you recommend me looking for / keeping away from? I am looking for MNR, MK Indy, Westfield, Mac 1, Raw Striker

Whitti_uk - 11/11/15 at 12:05 AM

Scrap the bike engine'd question... I see you have an R1 Mac1. Happy with it? I nearly bought an MNR R1 but got mugged about alittle

Yeah bike engine is my recommendation!

If your looking at complete built cars any of the brands you've listed are ok,but,it all depends on the person that's built it.The kit can be top quality, but then get chucked together by someone.

Oh yeah and a striker will be a VERY tight fit for you!
