nib1980 - 1/4/09 at 12:15 PM

hi all

I've been offered a GPz1000 with carbs and gubbins for a bargain price.

It's circa 1990

is this any good for use in a seven?

Many thanks

well done shame it's not before 12, or i'd have been a fool.

as my day hasn't been going particularly well i'll bite my tongue on what i really want to say.

anyone got any useful advice?

and to keep all factions sweet, i already have a CEC, and this is for a BEC project

I don't know for sure but I cannot see any reason why not. Very quick google shows it seems to be about 125 bhp which is more than plenty in a light weight car. Plus the fuelling is going to be simple with it being older.

Welcome to the world of big old Kwak engines.

First thing to consider is it's age. Nearly 19 is old for a bike engine. It may be well worn, gears, rings, valve guides etc.

It might work, but it'll be tempramental (a bit like a 20 year old xflow). Don't expect it to be as reliable as a year old ZX10 engine.

But then there is the cheapness to consider. The last ZZR engine I bought was £150 complete. TBH I stick them in, fill them up with fresh oil, new filter, new plugs and run them ragged.

If it blows, I stick another engine in and sell the bits that are left on ebay. I doubt many could afford to do that with busa's / ZX10's or R1 engines.

I think the GPZ1000 is a fuel injected engine BTW.

Nope, you're wrong Mike - a 1000RX is on carbs. The last of the GPz1100s were injected.

And here's our very own Minitici doing his thing with a ZX10 engine in his Hawke.
One of the derivatives of the big old Kwak family.

I had a GPZ1000RX years ago - my first proper big bike.
I loved it !
It was once the fastest production road bike in the world, booked at 165mph - I had that a few time on the clock - private roads of course
The cams used to be a weak spot - suffered from pitting, so check them if you can. Had a carb icing problem that was a factory recall to put right - coolant pipe utilised for this.
Bullet proof if in good order.
