Getting an oil catch tank to fit this week on my Westield 5PW R1 (2003).

Does it need to be mounted as per a car engine - oil catch tank inlet same height cylinder head - or is a bike engine different? I cant imagine how one is fitted to a bike?!!?!?

Bike or car engine mount as high or higher than rocker cover, this is to stop gravity pulling oil into the tank, you only want to catch the oily air.

In an ideal world thats right, but you can get away with it lower. Mines been lower for 2.5 years with no problem. Loop the pipe fairly high and roll up some mesh and insert it into the pipe where it exits the engine. The mesh will help condense oil mist and drain it back in and also restrict oil flow should a lot come up (extream circumstances). Make sure the mesh doesn't restrict air flow by checking you can blow through it easily.
