Hi folks,
Looking for some advice if possible . I have a busa turbo westy which runs perfect until I decided to track it around knockhill!
After only 5 laps it was seeing 105 deg on the coolent gauge. So had to retiree to let it cool down.
Around the roads it's all good and really need to know what temps I should expect to see on the track as this seems to high to me!
Also I would like to know what I could do to keep the temps down . I currently dont have a fan so that's my obvious start but don't feel it
should as high as it wasn't a hot day and there's plenty air going into the rad. So looking to upgrade my system perhaps bigger inter
cooler? Methonal injection?( I heard this may be like putting a bandage on a broken leg) but any help welcome and appreated .
Thanks
Craig
Pics or spec of install may help.
Ie what radiator are you running,?
Is the turbo water cooled
Have you got vents to get the engine heat out
Is it running the correct AFR
What are the oil temps like when water is 105
Are you sure the system is fully bleed of air not air traps
Have you shrouded the rad so all the air through the nose cone is forced through the rad?
Some simple questions I know but I also had a tubo bec and sometimes temps did rise so had to keep resolving the issues
May be able to offer some advice after this etc
Cheers
Sean
Thanks Sean,
I will get pics tomorrow to try show you better..
As for the radiator I don't know as the car came with it. The car was used as a track car and I don't some work on it then put it on the
road.
It isn't a water cooled turbo and it's from a mitsi evo.
There is vents but thought about making a bracket to lift the rear of the bonnet???
Afr? Fuel / air ratio?? If so this is spot on just been on the rolling road to check. Running just a little rich to be safer. The number 13 rings a
bell but could be wrong...
The oil temp gauge is faulty and needs changed but I think for sure the oil cooler could be doing with a bit more rails it's a 14 rail at the
mo.
There's no air locks and the air is def going straight thru the rad but perhaps not the oil cooler so well which will be seen on photos I will
add.
Do you know what the max water temp I should expect? Ob the lower the better but could do with a reference.
Thanks
Craig
Hi,
Is this the black/orange one with the holeshot engine in it?
105c on track is about normal for a turbo busa to be honest. Mine sits at about 100-105 when I'm on track and on cool down lap comes back to
about 90c, Oil temps will be between 100-110.
The issue is you don't really have a good frontal area for cooling. So its really all about getting the biggest core rad you can in there and
getting the air through it and out of the car ASAP, I would suggest you need have side vents if you don't already have them.
High volume water pump is a must, and plenty of fluid in the cooling circuit. I have a water cooled turbo and can keep temps to a max of 105 on track.
Air temps are the big killer of power. You need a massive I/C or go charge cooler like i have in my setup, methanol injection isn't really needed
until you have tried absolutely everything,as you say its just applying a bandage to something, and what happens when you run out of methanol?
Heres a few pics of my install:

Jwhatley..
Yeh it's got a holehot engine in it... But it's just black no orange!
To start nice car!!!! See you have spent some time there! For sale? Lol
What rad are you running??? What pump and turbo also??
Ive spent a lot of time, effort and money. Id like to say that finally its reliable enough!
Its a GT30-76R turbo, with a Alloy Racing Fabricaitons radiator.
Its always for sale, for the right price!
