Registration, Part 2 (arggggghhhhh)
jollygreengiant - 2/4/09 at 09:08 PM

Too quick to hit return, then post a blank page about sums up my day.

Any way, I have now, FINALLY stopped traveling for today. I cant fault the staff at DVLA Northampton, they are just following the rules.

So 09:00 swap from Taxi (work car) to wife's car (tow bar) in Kettering. Travel to (about 20 miles) Moulton Park (Northampton) to pick up Trailer (£40 so not bad)

10:00 leave Northampton for Rushden (20 miles)

10:30 start loading car onto trailer. Fuel pump packs up (at least this did not happen going to SVA). Eventually get car on trailer.

11:20 leave Rushden for DVLA Northampton.

12:00 Get seen promptly by Kelly. Checks Chassis number, tries to check Engine Number, can't see it due to exhaust heat shield. Manage to get first four of it by photo on phone. Kelly said OK I'll take the rest of the log book.

!2:30 Northampton to Rushden.
Off load car. Back to Northampton to return trailer.

13:15 Northampton to Kettering to swap cars.

14:15 Kettering to Rushden and home to bed.

Anyway Kelly said I should have everything sent back to me in a couple of days so I should have Tax disc and Authority to buy plate Tuesday/Wednesday. This gives me time to earn some more money and replace the *$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$*$* fuel pump.

2nd edit bit, This is all after having got up and no sleep since 17:00 hrs on Wednesday.

PS anyone got a Cavalier 1.8/2.0 (external) injection pump.
Edit bit. Found one in a breakers Yard, BMW 323 'C' Reg prefix, had one the same. £10. JD

Almost there Clive - If it's Tuesday how long has it been in the making (I always use the day the deposit money gets handed over as the start date)?

Neil.

Almost there... Its frustrating when you can actually see the finishing line, but cant quite get there!

Looking forward to seeing you again, especially with the car.

Take care.

Hope you paid for a stamp Clive, mine took two weeks to arrive because the Doris dealing with mine didn't frank the envelope and I had to make a 20 mile trip and pay a couple of quid to get it. She did ring me with the registration number though so plates were already made up and fitted.

Well, that was a worth while hour spent at the scrappies this morning. I went looking for the banjo's and bolts to fit a free flow filter between my fuel tank and fuel pump (to stop the cause of the pump failure loading the car to go to DVLA inspection), and to try and find a new pump, as a new replacement is a minimum of £110 plus delivery. The problem is that all the scrappies remove the high flow external pumps from the Astra's/Cavalier's/Carlton's as the come in so that they can siphon fuel out of the tanks for them selves. Any way to cut a long story short, I found one on a BMW (C reg, 323i). The same pump except the electrical terminals are bolt on (better/more secure) as opposed to push on. Total cost including the banjo's/bolts and fuel filter mounting bracket ...................................

£10.

Oh and BMW even fit a swirl type sediment trap in the fuel line before the pump. That fell into my tool box as well.

Looks like I'm going to be busy tomorrow.

Well Neil, , I can tell you now, , that my Original date of purchase was, , 27/10/2004.

Today, , I am, , Officially, , ON THE ROAD. .

So that makes the build time 4 years, 23 weeks and 1 day.

Total cost, ..............................................
£8540.56 including insurance, Sva, Registration & RFL. Excluding fuel (72 litres approx so work it out).

I did this afternoon learn a new hand signal from my son as I took him in the car to get the Number plates, I can't really describe it to you, but it means ......"SLOW DOWN I CAN'T BREATHE". I will have to show it to you the next time we all meet. Oh and that WILL be at Stoneliegh, with my son as my wife is going to a family wedding (I must get my priorities right). I have just got to learn Clive's trick for Packing.
