Problem day
jollygreengiant - 29/6/09 at 09:08 PM

Well took the car out to go up for my hackney carriage medical today (£110 pre paid to quacks when you book it).

On the way up the throttle linkage came off the butterfly spindle. Common problem on the Ford Sierra EFI, but easily fixed.

Had medical, came out to car and ............................................................................................................
Whats black and drips from the bottom of the engine, leaving a pool of shinny black stuff about 2 foot in diameter.????

Hey ho engine out.

Sorry to hear that Clive. Where is it coming from? Is it a seal or have you broken something?

David

Looks like from the bottom off the sump below the drain nut, will know more tomorrow after jacking up wiping & inspecting. I suspect that it is from that little divot just below the nut where on occasions I have had ground clearance 'issues'.

Ok, so now I've had time to stop panicing and actually think and do something about this.
Car is now up on axle stands again, so an ideal opportunity to do the springs and wishbone bushes while I sort out the sump.

Inspection shows that the sump actually sits about an inch plus below the bell housing. Driving the car has modified the bottom of the sum and hence holed it (pin hole) just below the drain plug. So this looks like it is also an ideal opportunity to modify the sump. This (in conjuction with new rear springs and hence slightly higher ride height) should solve the ground clearance and scraping sump problem.

When I originally said engine out I was still thinking in terms Sierra/Granada engine. Idiot. The sump access is a doddle as it now drops straight out the bottom (NO CROSS MEMBER to get in the way is there).

All being well I should be back on the road next weekend(ish).
