Has anyone else had trouble with fitting an mt75 gearbox to the velocity xt. I have just tried and with the gearlever part fitted to the gearbox it’s
just too long and will not fit?
It not to bad with out it on.
James
co-incidentally thats exactly what we've been struggling with today.
In order to make it fit better, we hacksawed the back of the bracket off, (as far as possible), bent the sides in (of the gear lever bracket) and
ground off and other protruding 'bits' that got in the way
I havent explained that very well buttomorrow I'll take a picture of it and post in here.
to change the subject slightly - Have you run the fuel lines yet and if so what route did you take?
Tony
No sorry Tony it was a trial fit to make sure that it all fitted in.
I am looking for an after maket remote lever for mt75 at the mo but not having a lot of luck.
The pics would be good thanks.
Its a lot of hard work fiting an engine and gearbox on your own!
i didnt even consider that an after maket lever would be available - that would probably be favorite.
it looks like we are both doing the same build at the same time.
Which zetec are you using?
i am using the 1.8 130bhp version. I think i came out of an rs2000.
I used a MT75 in an Indy. I used the original Ford gear change craddle cut and welded. Easy way is to cut the bit where the lever joins to the cradle, held in with four blobs of weld, cut the cradle to fit the tunnel and weld the lever mount back on. You may want to move the lever backwards or forwards to get it in the right place. Then just cut or extend the connecting rod from the lever to gearbox to length. Better than the £250 Westy job, and mine has worked fine.
do you have any pics of that zetec?
could you do the same as that but bolt the lever to the centre top tunnel cover and then just extend the connecting rod back to the gearbox?
Posted one on photo archive, sorry folks bit on the big side.
James,
Im using a 1.6 zetec, with bike throttle bodies - hopefully. Where abouts are you? Im in Dartford
I think the 130bhp Zetecs came from late XR3s, RS2000 are 2Litres

You could mount the lever to the tranny tunnel tubes, the only problem you might get is that the gearbox will move about so you need some flex to
allow for this. My craddle is mounted at the rear using a Mini exhaust rubber, a small bobbin, and the cradle mounts to the gearbox thru rubbers
also.
I'm not a far away just off the m25, about 25mins from Dartford tunnel if anyone wants a look.
Zetec, If you dont mind I would appreciate having a look at your car, cheers
This picture isnt very clear but this is what ive done
I have added what i have done with my gearlever to my Photo Archive.
