I posted about the car before I bought it... needed some work and decided to rebuild the engine as it smoked due to a cracked valve guide.
I did 400 miles in it before taking it off the road, been 10 days off and will be anotehr 2 weeks before its back on the road with new wheels etc
here are my progress pics.
The things I dont like are the condition of the body (dull) and naff graphics, rank wheels, condition of dash and the smokey engine.
I decided to do a full engine rebuild on it and the car is now in bits. I've bought wheels for it and will get them on soon enough I've
started buying all the switches and gauges I need to re do my dash so I can rewire the inside too.
The car should be back on the road next week so I can run it in as quickly as possible.
here are the pics I've got of it so far.
PS. Its my first kit car so any advice will be appreciated
one thing I do want to know is what brakes I can fit onto it as a replacement for what's on it at the mo.
Thanks, Yodi
And as of monday it's now like this.
Progress over the last few days has been good, after inspection of the head Taner found a dead valve guide so its now at TL Engineering getting a new
one and the rest inspected
I have taken the seats out to paint the floors and get new flooring for it, the stuff we use on wings also used on skateboards, we call it Wing walk
but I dont know what it's actually called.
I have also painted all of the engine bay.
The block is at my house cleaned now and ready for paint...
New fan is in just need to wire it in.
Took the poo paint off the bellhousing too.
I also polished up all the metal body with a mop and autosol, it came out so much better but will do it again anyway
here are my latest pics..
great progress - I'm sure you'll end up with a very sorted car!
All the best
Mark
You have a Koln axle Go easy on the drag starts...
Thanks mark
Mike, on the RS forum they confirmed is as a Cortina one??
Yodi
yep, cortinas used a koln axle. they're not known to be one of the strongest. however, drive as you like til it breaks, then get a atlas
Apparently it's a cortina 3/4/5 atlas axle not a Kolne my trusty boys on Turbosport conformed it due to seeing a void bush on it that the cotinas
used??
Im not that clued up but they are
Apparently it's nto a normal atlas though if that makes sense lol
Looking good
Thanks Ben
Although when I first posted about the car the vibe was negative I love it, I couldnt find any other car with some nice bits on it and not a xflow or
pinto for the money.
I'm an engineer so carrying out all the work is easy enough and also enjoyable, and at the end i'll have what I hope is a decent car
No problem, give us a shout if you wanna sell them wheels to me if you need any advice on the engine, i've got 2 in bits in my shed
Hi ben
Yes I will sell the wheels, the tyres are all very good and not that old
The bad point is that someone painted them white directly over the silver without any prep work so the paint if flaking off in big chunks.. Infact if
you look at my latest pics you will see that I have started getting the paint off the pass front wheel to make them all silver again.
They are 7x17 Et 40
let me know if you are still interested as I need to sell them to buy my new tyres
Thanks, Yodi

You're doing a cracking job there that man - If your replacemnt dash has equal care and attention then I'd suggest that the woes imposed by the previous owner will all be forgotten...
Thanks neil I hope so too
Here's the latest small update
The home made sump it had on it has been cleaned and powder coated and will do for now until I get a proper alloy one...
Also wheels turned up today just waiting for the T1R's to wrap them in The wheels are mint apart from the lacqueer peel which i will either
diamond cut or polish out.
So here is the lastest update
More parts arriving daily
and a metal plug cover that needs repolishing... they made metal and plastic ones, this is metal obviously lol
Just a word of warning with the powder coated camcover.... make sure there is NO powder coat inside (including the inside of the filler cap hole) as it can flake off into the engine.
Cheers Ben, its already in my boot to take to work and wash in the wash bin and do the cam cover mod to it
More pics again... Got a text along the lines of 'YOD IM AT HOME BORED' lol
here are the results
:thumb: taner
My god! you are making some wicked progress on your machine! - Keep up the good work, mate!
Regards, Steve.
Thankyou Steve, comments like that keep the motivation up...
The main thing I need motivation is going to work on the car, its 75 miles away so makes a long round trip
75 miles away?!

Forget painting the wheels blue thats gay
Small update, nearly there now... Next time i am there it will be started and test driven...
That's coming along nicely mate.I don't suppose you've got any pics of the sump internals/baffles do you??
I'm STILL getting oil surge and I REALLY don't want to shell out the £ 300 for an sbd jobby.
Sorry mate I never took any.
SBD want big bucks but QED want far less and thats the option ill be going for before xmas.
See this link:
http://qedmotorsport.co.uk/qed-shop/vauxhall-xe-c20xe/lubrication/cast-shallow-wet-sump-pan
Its £152 but leave £220 spare including pil pick up and gaskets, VAT etc etc
Nice find that QED one mate. it all adds up money wise.
I don't know if you know or not BUT the rubber 8v gasket IMHO is the one to go for and is much less fiddly to fit as well compared to the cork
ones
Thanks mate, I cant remember what gasket came in the kit but it was SBD supplied.
The rubber one has like a slot in it and it clips over the edge of the windage tray. that keeps it all inline/place. Much easier IMHO
Mt mate was putting the sump on whilst i was doing the seats and bits so i'll check, either way its on now so wont need to be changed again until the new sump arrives
not been to Taners in a few weeks been away and busy etc.. Was there all day today though
Here are the latest pics... Taner is a top man :thumb: big credit to him
Its all done starts, drives done 20 miles in it so far but there a small oil leak I need to sort as it was getting dark this evening. here how it is
now:
All that work and no pat on the back, I thought we help each other keep spirits up to finish our cars?
Anyway its run in nearly and I am still loving it, just looking for track wheels now
Well done, the engine looks ace!
Happy now?
lol thanks
More pics YODI - Looking niiiice - have you sorted that hideous dash yet?...
Not yet mate not really had the chance to be honest but its next on the list
Looking good mate
Thanks Ben, next pics will be of the wiring/dash sorted
You sorted those wheels yet?
Na not had time, need to get tyres off then I can finish peeling off the powder coat lol
Nice car, looks real nice in black now where have i seen a car similar
