As mentioned in another post Wilkingj commented that he would have in hindsight fitted a ford box to his V8.
I am just building my 3.9l V8 and I am searching around for a LT77 or a R380. Is there another option for me instead of the Rover gearboxes? If so
what, where? How?
I have driven a few Disco's/Defenders and first gear pulls heavy trailers away nicely and I have wondered how useful first gear would be on a
LT77'd kitcar.
T5 as fitted to the 2wd cosworths and Tvr's, Get a tvr box and you may even get the correct bell housing with it.
Bet there not cheap tho'
Yup, T5 as above. Strong and great ratios. Pretty lightweight also.
You have the following bellhousing options:
1) TVR bellhousing
2) Custom bellhousing from John Eales (expensive!)
3) Range Rover auto bellhousing + custom adapter plate. This is what I am using, but no idea who manufactures/manufactured the adapter plates (mine
was a random eBay find).
I run a LT77 wth a sierra 3.62 diff and to be honest the ratios arent good, ime looking for a 3.14 (hens teeth) diff to improve matters

Boo! Not really a option budgetwise. It seems you only need to sniff RPI Engineering and your wallets empty.
T5 with a custom bell housing is best option but very ££££
type nine also fits with a custom bell housing but cant take the tourque from the engine
Nothing wrong with the LT77 - its relativly cheep - No need to use first gear
Mine pulls away in second gear the same way a car pulls away in first and with a diff 3.62 will just do 60mph in second so no gear change needed for
the 0-60 times.
have run a 3.91 diff which gives better acceleration but you have to change gear at a lower value. So not good for traffic lights but very good in 4th
gear for 40 - 90 mph

For an adapter plate try Clare on here. She may or may not be interested as she's usually very busy but I've seen the one she made for her mazda and the quality of her engineering is great...
I run a BMW dogleg getrag ( the rare one with removable bellhousing ) and a John Eales (expensive!) belhousing using a AP concentric slave which was
£££ itself.
1st gear for leaving black marks all other gears used as a H patern 4 speed.
ran a 3.62 LSD now running a 3.14 limmited slip hybrid.
SD1 is ok just does not like to be rushed r380 better I am led to belive.
ATB agriv8
What about an adapter plate and an MT75?
I believe they can take big power compared to a Type 9.
I never done it but it can't be that hard to make an adapter plate can it?
Cheers,
James
