Afternoon all,
I have just been trial fitting my engine and the sump is going to have to hang out the bottom of the car by about 25mm, I know chopping the sump is a
option just wondering what the general opinion is? is it worth doing seeing as its only hanging out a inch? I cant take anymore off as the bottom of
the gearbox is only a inch above the lowest part of the sump.
Cheers!
I would just stick a sump guard on that.
Just taken my sump off the be sent off for shortening and adding baffles. It has a nice big split where I hit a raised manhole cover last year!!
Money well spent in my opinion
A sump guard would be much cheaper. An inch isn't a lot is it? How low do you want to go?
I have 4 inches between the floor and bottom of the sump, I havent set any suspension up yet so could possibly raise it slightly on the coilovers.
I don't think that 25mm below the chassis is all that bad - I would live with that to be honest
In the "book" an inch below the chassis is stated. Mine was fine when it was set at an inch and I never had any problems. It's a bit
lower now because I have a different engine and I've also lowered the car, and it now hits things on a fairly regular basis, but it looks better
lower and the engine makes it faster so I take the pain.
An inch below will be fine.

Mine rids more than that below the bottom of the chassis (only 75-80mm clearance ground to sump) and no problems so far... And I live in an area filled with speed bumps...
why not chop the sump, then drop it down an inch aswell, that way you get the engine lower so a lower COG
or i can design and build a billet dry sump for you....at a price :p
Luego Viento Cosworth YB mmmm cant you get a big wing sump for this engine...
