I am just planning my cooling. Do I need a oil cooler for my Rover V8 3.9 on Cabrs. What are your experiences?
You don't really need one, but, if you think you're borderline on cooling, fit an oil stat too, that way you know your oil is operating at the optimum temperature.
You can over cool oil - keeping it at the right temp will ensure you maintain the correct presure and oil properties
I have one fitted to my v8 and aim to keep it in the specifications of the oil you use.
I run an oil temp and an oil presure gauge in my view these 2 gages are as ( if not more ) important than water temp in relation to rover v8's
as oil presure is marginal fron the dizzie drive oil pumps. When I ran the car in winter I would struggle to get the oil to the correct temperature.
