Viento rear parcel shelf
Irony - 14/3/12 at 04:57 PM

Been thinking about my Viento's rear parcel shelf a bit lately and I have found a nice sheet of 4mm Aluminium checkerplate at work. thought it would be ideal. I have read in the Viento 'manual' that self tappers with screw cups is the way to attach it to the chassis tube. But I hate shelf tappers with a vengence and I am loathed to rivet them on as I will only have to drill them out again when I realise I have done something wrong.

What have others done when attaching this 'shelf'?

Also on the Viento chassis what are the rear upper sections made from tube not box section?

Rivnuts?

1/4 turn fasteners? You can get some lovely head designs.

Glued and Riveted 30mm alli right angle to inside of boot so that it was flush with the top. Then made a 3 (2 small ones that come in from the front of the roll bar & main large 1 that come in from the back) piece (4 if you include the opening boot lid in the middle) cover from MDF (sealed). Marked the under side where the outer edge of the alli was and where the pre drilled holes were. Drilled through the MDF where the holes were and then fitted blind screw fitting from above. Covered the top with Foam (exercise mat/camping sleep mat) then covered with vinyl. Dropped into place fitted stainles steel bolts JD.

Tatey - The rear tubes are tubes. I have never put a rivnut in a tube before. Is it possible?

Wyllie - Quarter turn fasteners - what are these?

JGG - Good idea. I could rivet and glue ally angle to the inside edge and then rivnut the panels to that.
