Pinto sump, does it need shortening ?
Andybarbet - 8/11/04 at 11:32 AM

I have had a look at my sump and it is only 1" lower than the bellhousing, do i need to shorten it if fitting into a Velocity XT ??
Or has everyone just fitted as is ?
Also - are there different sizes of sump fitted to pinto's as standard, mines an EFi 2.0L..
Cheers,.........Andy

Andy,

Its kind of a "how long is a piece of String" question,

Best thing to do is either drop the engine in and hold it in position determined by the mounts you have got (or are getting) then see how much ground clearance you have got. If its less than 4 inches i would chop it if not you will more than likely be ok.

I have 4 inch clearance on my F27 running a pinto sump and have only ever caught it on one notoriously bad speed hump.

i think cos of the type of car it is anyway, its a good idea to give yourself as much ground clearance as possible, at least you can keep your engine down nice and low giving under bonnet clearance too. so get a nice shallow gull wing sump for the motor, plenty of 2nd hand stuff about for the old pinto

Andy,

You could always contact Paul and Mark at http://www.rtmotorsport.co.uk

I believe they have a solution detailed on their Velocity build site.

Cheers

Gary
