Obvious pitfalls to avoid

Having finally finished my 2B I can wheel it out of the garage and set the Velocity frame up on trestles ready for the first steps. Before I do that though I thought I should ask if there are any obvious mistakes that people regularly make when building these cars? If so what are the best ways of avoiding them?

I would suggest reading some folks build diaries. Hellfires is a good MK one - I don't think the differences would be too huge.

One of the things I've seen mentioned is not to fit the tranny tunnel panels until you have the brake lines, fuel lines and electrics all plumbed in.

I'd also suggest making the engine bay bulkhead removable so you can get in at the pedals without having to lie upside down in the drivers seat. That said, I'm not too sure how the Luego engine bay bulkhead fits in... so it may be impracticle.

Even though we are now building our second MK, we have found ways how to improve on the first. So, my advice would be to think 6 stages down the build then and only then can you be 'almost' sure you won't need to undo it all again.

Do the clutch pedal / cable before the brake pedal, as you have to take the brake pedals out to get at the clutch pedal!.

Also make a cut out above the drivers feet, its easier to get at the pedals later. I have just lined the area with some 19mm angle iron, so I can have a "hatch" to make changing a broken clutch cable easier. Like the others say... think well ahead, and think about each operation before you start, and the order of each operation.

we are building a luego locost and here is a few of ours mistakes which may or may not be relavent....

1.bought dax rush body panels thought would look good but then had to cut and extend and fibreglass our nose cone and bonnet and then now the pinto engine is to tall and so we have a great big hole to fit it !
Also the arches were really wide too wide so had to cut and fibreglass.. effort !

2. we had cossie hubs discs and calipers thinking would be same but sierra cosworth and 4x4 hubs are not suitable for the front set up.

3. i would definately have my chassis powder coated if i built it again as hand painted it and it has loads of chips after working on it .

4. I would have like to have a kit which wasnt q registered but as i have sierra front end and escort rear end it has to be a Q reg. If all parts or the majority of parts come from one car it can be registered on the year of that car or if every part is brand new it can be plated brand new.

Well thats all i can think of at the mo.
