Handbrake switch
the moa 2 - 19/2/05 at 05:44 PM

Hi just fitting my tunnel panels and forgot about wiring the reverse switch and handbrake switch.

Im not to good on wiring i know i have a wiring diagram with my luego loom but it still seems a bit complicated.

The reverse switch is two wires and is labeled terminal 1 & 2 does it matter which way i connect these to my reverse switch in the gearbox ?

I have one wire for the handbrake warning light which needs to earth when the handbrake is on , i havent a switch anyone got a easy solution ?
I was just gonna stick the wire near the handbrake somehow not really got a plan thought id just bodge it so any further help from my bodge would be an improvement .

Cheers

Handbrake:
there should be a small male spade connector on the handbrake lever... providing you have an good earth on the handle it will light.

Reverse:
No idea, we have no reverse!

Doesn't matter which way round you wire the reverse switch, as its just a switch: Open or Closed.

Cheers

Don't think it matters which way round on the reversing light switch, all the switch does is effectivly join the wires together when reverse is selected. P.S. if you use a type 9 gearbox get the connector for the switch with as much of the wire as you can get as the switch is very close to the chassis and could short out if not insulated properly

Your green wire (marked term 1) is the positive when ignitioin is on. The green and brown wire (term 2) is the supply to the reverse lamp. Your gearbox reverse switch will be a normally open switch and will close when you select reverse, so it wont matter which terminals you connect the wires to.

Cheers for confirming that i thought the reverse would just be a circuit .

I havent got a spade or anything on my handbrake im using a escort mk1 handbrake !

Sierra handbrake has switch fitted and should fit Luego chassis, believe handbrake switch may not be needed ? BUT is convenient way of testing brake fluid level warning light. Haven't got S.V.A manual to hand so can't check.

You could mount a pedal type brake switch on the tunnel top to work off the handbrake. Shouldn't take too much effort.

For SVA you need a handbrake indicator and brake fluid warning level indicator

cheers i think it would easier if i just got a sierra handbrake as like you say it will fit the chassis and at the minute ive had to make a bracket so to fit my escort handbrake.

Well i guess it will have to wait .

well i bought a brake switch and am gonna fit it under the handbrake at the front so should work pretty well hopefully.

Cheers for the help
