Woohoo! I've just this second ordered my viento build blaster kit - I've just gotta decide the colour now.. any suggestions? I'm thinking a bit of an orange and black theme.

I've got to wait till the end of september/early oct till i can collect it but I hope (touch wood!!) to be able to have it built within about 6 months of starting, do people think this is a realistic timeframe? I really want to have it ready for the spring/summer next year.

Well done mate. Wise choice!!

As for the 6 months depnds how keen you are!! That was my plan with my locost. Its getting there but working on 8-9 months now and still no wheels on.

Colour - decided to be different so mine is Turquoise with black rollbar and trim

Build time - It's taken me about a year to reach a rolling chassie.

engine - 3.5 rover V8 ( sat in garage waiting a rebuild )

wheels - compomotive CRX 17 " ( arrive next week)

Brakes - Willwood powerlite 4pot with vented discs on front ( nothing on rear yet ! )

Due out on the road 2007 ( fingers crossed )

Choose your colour wisely... Dont affect your resale price, ie keep it sensible so its easier to sell on at a much later date.

Shame on you Geoff

The poor bloke hasn't even built it yet and already your telling him to think about selling it.

You have whatever colour you fancy mate.
Your the one who's gonna drive it. Enjoy.

thanks for the advice, as it happens I've gone for a bit of a mad colour - turquoise (like Paul (notts))

resale did cross my mind but i decided that I'm buying the car for me not for someone else so I'm gonna get the colour i really want, and i don't think i've gone too mad, its a bit of a bonkers car so i think it deserves a bit of a special colour.

Has anyone else bought a build blaster kit from luego? did you think it was good value? I've been doing my sums and it seems like its actually cheaper to buy the parts from them separately - but I must be missing something! gonna ring them tomorrow and find out exactly what comes in the kit and how much the bits would cost separately.

Humbug!! I was just being practical... Advice can be given, but does not have to be taken!

No probs there.. It might have been an angle that you had not considered.

You have whatever colour pleases you the most..

I got the Viento Budget Blaster Last year... I think its good value Viento wise. The Velocity is even better value (as its is lower cost all round).
However, If you want a V8, or a BMW straight 6 etc, the the Viento is the way to go. Or if you are just a Bat Fastard like me, its easier to get in and out of!.

Dont regret buying the Viento at all...
My build will be 1 year in Nov. Not on its wheels yet!, but nearly there. Rebuilt Engine and box in and running.

Just have the following to do:

Buy Wheels!!! (why its not on them!)
Set up the steering / supension
Fit Brake calipers and Bleed
Fit Wheels
Fit Mudguards
Fit Lights
Fit Seats (left till last on purpose)
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Fit Silencers (Just on Pipes at the moment ) and I just cant resist starting it up every now and then

Not a huge amount to go.. but lost enthusiasm for a couple of months.. I've just had me Hols... and a ride in Mark Allansons Super Blue Locost.. Just the Tonic I needed. Especially listening to the Comments of the pedestrians in St Ives as we drove through the town on a lovely evening... It went (kids) Coo... Daaadddd LOOK at THAT, and being eyed up from some of the women and girls, even though I am a Bat Fastard and 52. I think it must have been the car and not me they were looking at
EVEN SO... it was a nice feeling.. Thanks to Mark for the Large dose of Tonic

I think a dirve in one has gotta be a good inspiration!

will normal sierra wheels do or does the viento have funny offsets? as i have a decentish set from my donor car that i was planning on refurbing and spraying black.

I've just spoken to luego and gone over my sums again and it seems the prices for the parts on the parts on the website are a bit old and aren't right - now all makes sense and the kit seems to save me a few hundred quid. which is good!

wilkingj - 27/8/05 at 07:31 PM

Off sets are in a doc on the Luego Website... For max effect you will want two pairs of wheels, different widths.
I think its 235's on the back and 205's on the front.

I have a set of Escort Allys, but they will not reach the outside of the rear mudguards.

Another tip, when you get your Shocks make sure you get them with M12 Bolt holes / Eyes. Guess how I know!
So I drilled out the Brackets to 1/2" holes... Err guess what!... With the Side Panels on you cant get to the two top front mountings!!..

Its been a stumbling block for a couple of months... Today I made a couple of Shimming Sleeves up, and its fixed the problem really well (M12 bolt in a 1/2" Eye hole on the shock. ie a very thin sleeve to go over a M12 Bolt and into the 1/2" hole in the shock.
