Hi just got our luego locost sva'd and on road and starting to use it and have been getting some knocks from the rear and besides my leg.

The rear axle is very close to the bottom of the chassis about 10mm and when going round corners i think its bottoming out and hitting chassis is this the norm ?

The gearbox moves quite a bit is knocking the inside of the tunnel when at lows revs and generally when the engine is vibrating alot. is this the norm ?

I realised it wasn't gonna be like driving a brand new golf but to say im a little paranoid about driving it is an understatement.

What G box mount are you using?
Sierra?
If so change it to a solid one.

Yes originally rubber sierra one .

What do ya mean solid one can they be bought or just make something to suit?

To bottom out it's moving away from the chassis. If your axle hits the chassis your rear shocks are too long.

Just called grant at luego this morning who said to first look at the angle of the trailing arms as they should be horizontal and parrelle to the chassis .

We havent any clue on setting suspension up so nothing has really been done yet so i will see if i can wind the springs up to change this.

We have luego locost chassis so would we still need to mod chassis to suit westfield mount.

Sorry when I said a solid one I meant a solid rubber one!

Not solidly bolt it!

The westfield one is such a solid rubber mounting and is what I have used.

It will definately need some mods to the chassis mounting But its not that difficult.

I can send you pics of mine but you'll have to wait a week as I'm away till Monday.

I have the same problem with the gearbox mount in my Luego.Had the Westfield mount for some time but haven't got round to fitting it yet . I have compared it to the original sierra type and yes chassis needs some mods to fit mounting . May make a removable gearbox cross member to fit it . Think I read somewhere that Westfield are out of stock recently but not sure.

I've just cured this problem I had on my locost by winding up the rear springs and Tightening the locking collors

The problem was gradually getting worse over time, another good reason to double check EVERYTHING.

I have now noticed that my gearbox bellhouseing is hitting the chassis tunnell and by the looks of the marks on the chassis it must have jumped up and across about 3 1/2 to 4 inches which is unreal.

Would the westfield gearbox mount sort this rocking of the gearbox ?

Its as if the gearbox isn't even bolted down.

The westfield one is almost solid, just damps out the vibration. I have one and it works fine.

Do you have the steel bell-shaped washer fitted inside your gearbox mount? That stops things moving around too far.

Originally I thought this thing was redundant, until I heard about all the problems people have with a too-flexible mount.

If you haven't got one fitted, then it's a cheap thing to try. If you have got one... then the Westie mount is the next step!

Yeah i might get one of westy mounts and see if that sorts it not much money but alot of efford but what can you do.

Went to see grant at luego yesterday to show him my car to see if he could figure out whats going on.

Turns out we have welded the axle and suspension brackets wrong.

We welded to the trailing arm brackets onto the axle which was fine but we then added an extra bracket on top to take the bottom of the shock. Apparently they use one long bolt to go through the trailing arm and shock.

Also the panhard rod was wrong we had a bracket welded onto the back of our bottom shock bracket. When it should be attatched to the centre of the trailing arm bracket.

I will get some pics to show as im sure ive confused you all.

Cortina gearbox mount is small.

I've often wondered if the Westy g'box mount is from mk1/2 Cortina. Looks very similar. Is this truly so?
