Viento V8 exhaust
darrens - 20/3/06 at 10:49 AM

Hi,

Anyone got any good advice on exhaust for Viento RV8. I'm thinking of buying from Luego, I believe there's is a polished stainless affair, I can't remember whether I liked the sound of this or not, has been awhile since I heard the demostrator. (which has now gone I believe). Is stainless more prone to the discolouration than chrome?

Any help welcome
Thanks

I got a Luego RV8 Stainless Exhaust.

ANY stainless (or chrome) steel WILL discolour. Its a property of metal and depends on the temperature the exhausts get up to. My old BSA bike was always dark blue at the head end of the exhaust!.

The colour will dependant on the temp, going from Light Straw, to dark straw to blues and very dark blue, as its gets hotter and hotter.

The quality of the Luego Exhaust seems to be very good (like most of their stuff). Not Cheap, but then any SS Exhaust including the manifolds will set you back a few pennies or more.

Above all its bloody quiet for what it is.
This is Great for the SVA. You can always unpack some wadding later, or not replace it when it gets thin for a bit more of that V8 roar

wilkingj,

what type of sound does it have, it's just that I'm not a great fan of the raspy sound that some of the seven cars have, the deep rumble of the v8 that's not overly loud is what I'm after. Heard allot of cobras with this sound, TVR achieved perfection this with the chimaera and griffith sound.

Is this poss with a seven type car as the two manifolds do not join as with other v8 cars.

The Deep rumble... Thats what I want as well. My exhaust note is not as deep as I would like it to be. I dont think its a sound that you will get with just 2" pipes.

I believe you need the 4-1 section to go down to at least 3" then 3" all the way to the exit, to get that low sound. Its the bore diameter for the low sounds... Think musical instruments... A penny whistle / flute / then a Didgeridoo / Organ Pipes (Size Wise).
I also believe having it all come out of one pipe wont be necessary to do what you want. However, if you do, it would still need to be a BIG PIPE.

ie Size Counts.

During the build, you want Quietness to get through the SVA... then change to whatever takes your fancy. Not a cheap option, but you can always sell off a stainless V8 exhaust for a Rover.. shouldnt be a problem at all.

The above is my view and may not be 100% technically correct, although the theory seems to be right.

go to my website below, one of the pages has the note I am looking for

Just noticed this thread and thought I'd add my two penneth, probably a bit late now.

I have the Luego exhaust fitted to my Viento. I had a few problems with the fit but luego sorted it out with a few mods for me pretty quickly.

Now to the sound...........a nice V8 rumble that changes to a very powerful sounding blatter when you stick your foot down. In short, you wont be disappointed.

As for the SVA, mine came in at 91 decibels at 3500 rpm easy pass.

Good luck with the build.

Cheers,

Dave

Firstly I have to agree with everything Dave J has said....including the part about fitting problems!
Anyway, to the sound. I have uploaded a mov file of my engine with the Luego exhaust.....turn up the bass

NB:- nearly 6Mb so may take a while

I agree with the above, the fitting wasnt too bad.
Pay particular attention to getting the engine in EXACTLY the right place first, ie centred and level. Also Longditudinally, as any error here is amplified by the time you get to the tailpipe end of the exhaust.

I had to make up some shims (3" dia Washers) to put under and above the engine mount to raise one side up a few mm so it was level.

Cutting the hole for the Pipes in the Polished Stainless sides was a nightmare... Namely I could not afford to get it wrong due to the cost of the side panels. The Hole was easy to cut... getting it in the right place was the real problem, as I could not afford (£££££) to make a mistake.

All in all it wasnt too bad.
