Owners Club
richard thomas - 2/5/06 at 06:10 PM

Hi,

Is there an active owners club on the go? I've just completed my hayabusa powered velocity with only the SVA to get through and i'm looking for friends to play with....
Anyone have any experience of the SVA test centre in Cardiff??

Regards, Rich.

darrens - 2/5/06 at 06:14 PM

I woundered this at stoneliegh, but never got round to asking question.

Could do with one, I think there's gonna be a few of us desperately trying to finish cars before the summer buggers off.

richard thomas - 2/5/06 at 06:17 PM

Aye, I wandered around stoneleigh on Sunday but couldn't find an owners club pitch - nor any velocity's for that matter! Heard there that luego gone bust - gutted. Hope it doesn't mean that my car is worthless now!!!

Rich.

rusty nuts - 2/5/06 at 07:00 PM

There was a couple of Luegos at the locost club site, we where made very welcome by them and the MK owners next door

piddy - 2/5/06 at 07:03 PM

There is an Luego owners club.

However they don't seem very actice.

rusty nuts - 2/5/06 at 07:16 PM

Could be that the club was organised by Luego?

richard thomas - 2/5/06 at 07:17 PM

Thanks for the link. I think i registered on that some time ago but got no reply from them.
Anyone happen to know approximately how many Luego's are on the go? I think i had velocity chassis no 33 but that was 14 months ago.

piddy - 2/5/06 at 07:22 PM

I've just registered with them to see if they respond.

richard thomas - 2/5/06 at 07:25 PM

Nice one, let us know if they do. I spoke to Grant a couple of months ago on the subject, he reckoned that they were looking for people to organise in their local areas...
How far are you into your build??

pointy - 2/5/06 at 07:26 PM

Piddy,

I am no more than 20 miles away in Dereham, have you finished yours?

I am chassis number 19 and have just finished and awiting S.V.A date

How'd you know what No. chassis you got? I bought mine in March 05 (hope to be finished before summer dies, but have no idea what No. chassis it was.

Regards

APR - 2/5/06 at 08:11 PM

did you not get a chassis no from grant some thing like lugeoveloci200318

richard thomas - 2/5/06 at 08:21 PM

Aye, that's right - i got the number from luego - not sure how you would get one from them now though. That said, i believe it just needs to be a 17 digit number so i suppose you could give it any chassis number you want?
Anyone building in S Wales?

Barry - 2/5/06 at 09:57 PM

Hi Richard
Yes I'm building in Cardiff. You're way ahead of me if you're thinking about SVA.
I've had my velocity chassis for 2 years almost to the day. I don't have a chassis no - get one when you need it was the word from Grant and co.
Anyway at the moment I'm more concerned about such matters as what bits are pure Velocity and what can be had from elsewhere like windscreens, exhausts and such.
Are you local to Cardiff?
Barry

wicket - 3/5/06 at 11:59 AM

I've also just signed up, the club was not organised by Luego

piddy - 3/5/06 at 01:28 PM

For those that wanted to know.
I'm about half way through the build. another three months should see it finished.

richard thomas - 3/5/06 at 02:47 PM

Barry, i'm near to bridgend so quite close really - how far into the build are you??

Also to clarify - the chassis number i have is: luegoveloci200332. Not sure that they sold 332 chassis though..... I don't know whether luego kept a log of these numbers when they gave them out? It might be a task the owners club could take on i.e. find out what chassis numbers are registered and provide subsequent numbers to those that need them.

darrens - 3/5/06 at 03:30 PM

when did you buy, cos it looks more like 2003 chassis No. 32

richard thomas - 3/5/06 at 05:02 PM

Bought it in Feb last year - but you are right, it does seem to read that way. Pretty sure the chassis was manufactured last year though 'cos i specified the CDS full cage.

piddy - 3/5/06 at 05:52 PM

Richard.
have you any pictures of the full cage?

wilkingj - 3/5/06 at 10:35 PM

Just joined as well to see if it prods anyone into action..

hector - 4/5/06 at 07:17 AM

hi regarding chassis numbers i wrote a letter to my local DVLA (exeter) and suggested a numbber to them -LUEGOVIENTOV6**** and they wrote back saying yes that it was suitable to use. cheers colin

richard thomas - 4/5/06 at 07:26 AM

I do have some pictures, i'll try to get them on the weekend. I should clarify - when i said full i meant roll bar with 2 rear stays and diagonal in cds, not full as in the scaffolding job you see in the race series!!

Donners90 - 4/5/06 at 08:10 AM

You should be able to choose whatever 17 digit cahssis number you want...providing it doesn't already exist. Mine is LUEG0VIENT0V82005.

Have got Viento Chassis # 2. Slightly different dimensions to the later ones, but means I can fit slightly wider seats

Anyone in South Essex - Brentwood/Billericay area?

muzchap - 4/5/06 at 09:05 AM

Well if they don't respond - we should surely set our own Luego Owners Club up

richard thomas - 4/5/06 at 10:51 AM

Yes, any volunteers out there to manage it?? After all it shouldn't be too big a job seeing as how there can only be a finite number of possible members in light of recent events.....

tks - 4/5/06 at 11:21 AM

we cant grow either!!

in fact we only could crimp if someone zipzzsss his car

Tks

G3OFF - 4/5/06 at 12:01 PM

im intrested in helping out in the owners club.. im the guy who used to maintain there website.. and also have all the original artwork etc....

and of cause... a luego v8 viento...

richard thomas - 4/5/06 at 01:31 PM

Picture of cage as promised. it doesn't look a lot different but is a fair bit taller and is CDS for race use.[img]http://locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/a366855-904f[1].jpg[/img]

Paul (Notts) - 4/5/06 at 07:49 PM

Setting up our own club seems like a good idea. I would be willing to give up a little time to help out.

I do think we should organise a get together to talk about this an other issues at either newark or donnington..

richard thomas - 4/5/06 at 09:02 PM

All for it, I think we need to do something if the existing(!) club doesn't respond. Without either a club or a manufacturer i'm afraid our toys might suffer somewhat in residual values! Plus i'm sure that there must be other real benefits to being a club member....anyone got any experience of running a club? I'm willing to chip in but have no idea what's involved!!

kitcarkris - 5/5/06 at 03:15 PM

i think that we all meet at newark at a certain place at a certain time and discuss the club issue, would be very constructive i feel if we are all there in person, does anybody know the show ground very well and where a good place would be to meet. or even is it possible to get a luego stand there? should be a few of us there

anybody in swindon or cirencester (south cotswolds)?

rusty nuts - 5/5/06 at 06:20 PM

May be worth contacting the show organisers to see if they have any spaces left for a Luego meet?

tks - 5/5/06 at 06:50 PM

but you only will see mee once a year,
i promise i will take some spanish "cerdo iberico" ham and beef wich if you know what i mean is good for on the birquetes.. (barbecue)

regards,

Tks

p.s. my chasis number is: xxxxxxx

recieved 26nov 2004

think they started production in 2003 and that 24 is just my number... sow the welder had done 24 of the same welds!!

richard thomas - 5/5/06 at 08:19 PM

Meet at Newark - good idea. I'm going to have to pull my tripe out to get through this SVA (with inevitable failiures) in time though. Is it frowned upon to trailer to shows?? How many of us do we reckon on?

darrens - 5/5/06 at 08:37 PM

I'll be there (minus a Luego tho), only darn rood for me

Paul (Notts) - 5/5/06 at 10:13 PM

OK ,,so we all agree we need to meet up at newark and talk about this..

some of us may have cars on the road and others, like me are still a year away from SVA.

So how do we organise this?
Who whants to be involved
Which lucky sods will be in their cars?
How many Vientos are their?
How many Velocities?
How many locosts?

When will I finish my Viento?
How much have I had to drink?
Why do I go to work on a Monday when I hate My Job?

rusty nuts - 6/5/06 at 08:04 AM

Should be there in my Locost unless I find something better to do (very unlikely)

kitcarkris - 6/5/06 at 12:25 PM

hoorrah, i just phoned newark promotions (organisers of the kit car show) we are going to have a club stand!!!! they are sending me the details and i will post them here as soon as i hear from them, i don't know how many cars we have space for yet or any other details. all i know is that we should have a LUEGO stand!!!!
i will be ther ein my velocity
yeah

rusty nuts - 6/5/06 at 12:31 PM

Good news that man! might be a good idea not to call it the Luego owners club in case it causes any problems with the organisers of said club? Just a thought in case it is a registered name etc

kitcarkris - 6/5/06 at 12:34 PM

ok so, any ideas on what the "club" stand should be?

Paul (Notts) - 6/5/06 at 12:51 PM

Luego (www.locostbuilders.co.uk) club?

I have a 4mx4m gazebo thingy that we could possibly set up for some shade as it is often very hot at Newark ( or shelter from the rain ) and some chairs … But I will be in my tin top as Viento still a long way off..

Just an idea…

[Edited on 6/5/06 by Paul (Notts)]

Barry - 6/5/06 at 12:57 PM

I'll certainly try to get to Newark and as of this moment I consider myself a member of The Luego owners club (as long as a garage full of bits that will one day be a velocity qualifies.)

Richard : How far along with the build: I hope to be ready by next Spring /Summer- work and budget get in the way of real progress.

Sadish isn't it that it took the collapse of the company to gell us into some sort of unit? Up to now most of us have been building away in our own small spaces.
It'll be great to meet up.

Barry

Barry - 6/5/06 at 01:02 PM

Just read Rusty Nuts' comment re name of club : taking the name of the company how about Luego Sportscar Club.

Just a thought

Barry

richard thomas - 6/5/06 at 01:58 PM

Yes, the name sounds good to me. As mentioned - funny how it's taken the collapse of Luego to kick us up the arse!!
I am awaiting a date for SVA from VOSA. However, whether it passes in time for Newark or not I might just trailer it up there anyway. It's a long way from S Wales for will effectively be a shakedown run....but I reckon that if we do have a Luego stand then the more cars there the better? Show that we exist, so to speak.

darrens - 6/5/06 at 02:56 PM

wicket - 6/5/06 at 08:14 PM

Its June 17th & 18th

Definitely up for membership but can't make Newark, away on hols.

richard thomas - 6/5/06 at 09:08 PM

Barry, how much you got left to do? if your looking for anything let me know - just had a major end of build garage clean out, but you never know.....also be nice to see another interpretation of the build!
Just had last big spend (hopefully) on car - westfield megabusa exhaust silencer (need the cat). £400!!!! feel like crying but hopefully it will be worth it in the end....if missus finds out i will be crying!!

richard thomas - 6/5/06 at 09:17 PM

Just a thought on club name.

How about LueGone?

Sorry......

kitcarkris - 7/5/06 at 12:19 PM

right then, "luego sports car club" does anyone have a problem with this???? anybody want to make and last suggestions??? if not then it will be this,

richard thomas - 7/5/06 at 04:29 PM

Aye, let's go for that.

Nice work on getting us a stand Kris, by the way.

Anyone got anything back from the "other" club yet??

Paul (Notts) - 7/5/06 at 04:50 PM

luego sports car club

Officially formed on the 7th May 2006

Now we need to organise a list of members..
Then at Newark or before we need to organise who is going to help run it and what is involved –If done correctly we will be entitled to discounts with some insurance companies and other benefits.

And of course we will need to organise the art work for the T-Shirts ( would be good to have these for Newark )

Paul

kitcarkris - 7/5/06 at 05:24 PM

richard thomas - 7/5/06 at 08:19 PM

Dave J - 8/5/06 at 10:20 AM

Good work!

I'll be there on the Sunday in my Viento, (on the road before the engine gave up)so long as my replacement engine is sorted by then.

Look forward to meeting you guys

Dave.

simonk - 8/5/06 at 11:44 AM

I'm based on the Herts /Beds/ Cambs border, and my local pub would I'm sure be happy to host an occasional gathering. Have an adjacent field that would look great with cars all over it !! Anyone else in the area building or complete please feel free to get in touch.

Simon

rusty nuts - 8/5/06 at 06:00 PM

Where are you Simon?, I'm on the Herts side of Cambridge

Kristin Anderson Velocity All weekend

I will about 8:30pm on Friday with my Viento.
Last time I went to Newark we camped near the main entrance. (First left, grass area on the right).

Wow you straddle some counties there!

I'm in Pete-bog-horror, I mean Peterborough

Lue-gone was a good idea for a name - we could take it the non-literal sense of 'you cant catch me' - hang on, that was the motto of the company - hmmmm But they did get caught

I'll be at Newark - but nowhere near finishing - hopefully started this weekend coming - then loads to do for SVA!

Apparently the bikini clad women are around on Sunday - so I'll be attending on.... SUNDAY of course

[Edited on 8/5/06 by muzchap]

Paul (Notts) - 8/5/06 at 07:18 PM

I'll be there Sat and Sun but no tent so not able to stay overnight..( could sleep in the car .. just a thought. umm.. is that allowed.. Ford C-max..take the back seats out..)

Viento will not be ready until next year

Andybarbet - 8/5/06 at 07:19 PM

I will definately be about at newark camping over but no Velocity as the chassis and body are in storage until i get a garage sorted.

Had my kit just over a year but split with wife halted my plans to crack on, hoping to get it on the road for stoneleigh next year if all goes well tho

Im based in Herts so a meet somewhere round herts beds cambs would be good, as long as it fits in round my work shifts

Or if you all come over to where the kit bits are stored we could prob build it in a beer filled evening

pointy - 8/5/06 at 08:09 PM

My velocity is finished and being m.O.T ed tommorrow, with s.v.a date on horizon.
Will be there on Sunday in tin top as family like the day out (are they sane)
I have chassis number 19.
I wonder if we could trace number 1 to whatever was the last one???

I'm in a little village called Wrestlingworth, which is just off the Cambridge / Sandy road about 10 miles from Cambridge. Where are you ?

Simon

rusty nuts - 9/5/06 at 06:32 PM

I'm in Great Shelford about a mile from Addenbrookes hospital as the crow flies . Perhaps a meet is in order, but I will be away until 22nd

piddy - 11/5/06 at 05:04 PM

Hi.
Piddy here.
Just looked at the thread and surprised how it has grown.
I presently run a kit car club in the Norfolk Suffolk area.
All Kit car owners/builders are welcome to join in especialy Luego owners. I would be more than willing to run A branch of "the Luego sports club" in this area.
I will be at Newark Both days.
in the tin top I'm afraid. hoping to have the Velocity Xt on the road for
Donnington in september.

[Edited on 11/5/06 by piddy]

tks - 11/5/06 at 06:12 PM

i suggest that we open a website where everyone could join the club by adding their personal data on a screen when posting to a Database Server....

etc. etc.

i will join altough its more economically..

Regards,

Walter

altough we could organise a trip to Guijuelo...D

Ahh the Checkers at Wrestlingworth, used to do a mighty fine porter-house steak.
For what its worth I'm building (albeit very slowly in between house moves, extension build & mother in-law moving in) a Viento. Will be a 2.0 pinto for sva but am lining up a decent V8 for afterwards. Location is Higham Ferrers, Northants.
Will try & get to Newark on the Sunday, Trouble is I drive a Taxi for Living & generally finish Saturday nights about 4 on Sunday morning.

tj4ord - 13/5/06 at 01:30 PM

Hey all!

I'm up for joining the new club i had an email ages ago about the so called luego owners club! but nothing seem to come from it!

I'm still in the slow process of building mine! and i'm based nr stamford!

Cheers

tks - 9/2/07 at 02:55 PM

can i join??

Tks

richard thomas - 11/2/07 at 11:49 AM

As far as i know it's still an informal affair, but there were some nice luego shirts around.

jollygreengiant - 11/2/07 at 04:10 PM

So are we having another informal meeting at stoneleigh this year. If so do we all head for onne area vis-a-vie camping and showing. (ok so mine is still a WIP, but I can still give moral support).

And yes TKS if you want to appear at the show & join in, feel free.

Who's in charge of the beer this year?
Who's in charge of the evening food/barbq?

Any other question and answers gratefully appreciated.

Lets make it better than Newark (if we can).

richard thomas - 11/2/07 at 09:48 PM

I'm up for it...hopefully have a bit less boot space this year though, i.e. no boot at all - so might struggle to fetch the ice box this time

rusty nuts - 11/2/07 at 09:55 PM

Should be there if I manage to get the injection system up and running

rusty nuts - 12/2/07 at 10:03 PM

Got the throttle bodies mounted to the manifold although not yet fitted Today I made and fitted the VR sensor and mount. Getting there slowly

wilkingj - 13/2/07 at 06:52 PM

I'll be at Stoneleigh barring any mishaps... Anyone for a Convoy from the Cambridge area, preferably on the Friday?

Beer and BBQ is a must.. But dont forget to put in an order for some good weather as well.

Dave J - 13/2/07 at 07:05 PM

Hopefully I'll make it to Stonleigh this year, so long as my engine doesnt blow up again

Cheers

Dave
