Will a Pinto 2l EFI fit in?
Cussed - 7/5/03 at 04:04 PM

Hello All,
I have just got hold of a rather nice Sierra donor - even though I haven't decided yet exactly which kit I'm going to build.

Does anyone know if the fuel injected 2litre pinto engine will fit into the luego velocity without having to cut a hole in the bonnet to accommodate the injection gubbins which sits slightly higher than the engine cover?

I know that workarounds exist for this is problem , but I'd much rather be able to drop it straight in without any drama.

Cheers in advance for any comments

Eddie

Hi Eddie, what is the overall height of the engine with the injection unit?
Best Regards The Luego Team.

Thanks for the quick replies.

The engine is still in the car, but the height is:
that of a standard pinto +14cm at the back droping to
standard height +8cm at the front

Do you have that much clearance around the pinto in a Velocity? If so I'd be a happy camper. If it didn't then I know that the chamber can be chopped so that it's no higher than the engine - Dave someone on the Robin Hood site RHOCAR has a kit for doing it.

Whilst you're here Luego Team - will the Velocity be coming out to play at your barbeque a week on Sunday? If so then I'd definately like to come along and see it in action.

Cheers

Eddie

Its not ready yet, but you can have a measure to see if your engine will fit.

Hi Mate,

It's hard enough to fit the Pinto in with carbs. 14cm of injection is going to need about a 13cm bonnet bulge I'd imagine!

Sorry to disappoint!

Hello James,
Are you in the process of building a Velocity then? If so - how's it going, any grumbles, advice, praise, encouragement...

It looks like I'll be following the conrod kid into a bit of adjustment to squeeze it in by chopping the plenum chamber.

Is anyone planning to go to Luego 9 days time (sunday) to have a peek at the Viento V8?

I'll come along to have a look if that's OK with you Luego team?

Thanks again for all the help

Eddie

Not building a Luego but I've seen 'em and they're not so different that you could easily fit a standard Pinto EFI!

You are welcome Eddie, and all of you guys are welcome to check us out.

Hi

I have a Robin hood 2b with a chopped plenum and i would say that it sits at about the same height as the cam cover.

Its a bit of a job to chop down but not impossible. As the others have said, take a look at the rohcar sitelink to Dave Andrews mod.
I did all the work myself but i had a local engineering company weld the alli casting back together for about £25.00.

cheers

Cheers for the encouragement Julian. I've found Dave Wilsons plenum chamber mod on RHOCAR:
http://www.rhocar.org.uk/buildtipz/024.shtml

Is that the one you mean? I was expecting that this would have to be my route - but I thought I should check I wasn't making more work for myself.

Cheers

Eddie
