Viento Build
Dann - 18/8/06 at 03:47 PM

After looking around at all the L7 type cars. I think I've decided on a viento, mainly as I'm very tall and a somewhat big boned.. Can anyone give me a rough idea as to the average build cost of a viento( minus the engine as I can't decide on what to fit just yet) Finally is there anyone a reasonable distance from Northampton with a built car who would be kind enough to take me out for a spin. Luego haven't got a demo car at the moment unfortunately.

cct7kitcars - 18/8/06 at 03:49 PM

have you looked at our car www.cct7.co.uk

Cost. A bit of a perenial question. Built my Viento with the certain knowledge that it will be my one and only build.

Therefore spent a fortune targetting the brand new plate.

Will be taking the car up to Donington (weather permitting) on the Saturday, might be able to give you a ride then.

fesycresy - 18/8/06 at 04:04 PM

How tall and how fat ?

Don't discount other manufacturers until you've sat in them.

Dann - 18/8/06 at 04:13 PM

chris, are you going up to donington for a trackday? What time are you going up there?

I'm 6'2" and 18 stone, I've tried a tiger which I couldn't even get into, a westfield which I could get into but my knees where too close to the steering wheel and I couldn't drive it properly

I do have quite a large frame and I'm quite wide, hence I thought the viento would be ideal, but any other suggestions of a larger 7 style car would be appreciated..

jollygreengiant - 18/8/06 at 04:22 PM

Hi Dann. Whilst mine is still in the building stage I do live in Higham Ferrers if thats of any use to you. If you have a look in my photo archive and build progress in the Luego section you will get some idea of how far I have got.

P.S. I'm 6' 4" and about 19st.

Also Perci lives nearby to me and I think that her/their car is fairly close to being finished.

chrisj - 18/8/06 at 04:31 PM

Yea I tried a few but it was the ever growing width and my big feet that sold it to me.

My father in law who is 6 4 and 18st can move the seat (full width) on the runners forward if he wants to.

As I say will be at Donington keep an eye on the forum or U2U.

My viento is complete,

Alfa Engine

Total cost , around £7000.

Lots of hours and the engine cost £40.00
So that may give you some idea.

Dann - 18/8/06 at 05:06 PM

Ohhh Alfa V6, was that an easy job to fit, do luego do the engine mounts or did you have to make your own. I just love the sound of the Alfa V6's

Confused but excited. - 18/8/06 at 05:28 PM

If you want to make a quick profit on the engine, I'll give you £50.00 for it.

Paul (Notts) - 18/8/06 at 05:53 PM

Hope to finish mine over the next year

Rover V8 engine - £100
rebuild costs inc 4B carb - too much!!! ( £ 1000 )

wheels - compomotive CXr ( best looking wheels around) - far too much

Hope to bring in the total build for £ 8000 havingh saved a lot of money by making dash and using second hand car seats + lots of other things like using a volvo radiator ( £ 50 not £300 like the V8 radiator but may just work )

Paul

Thanks for all the replys, really helpful. It seems that I should go for the Build Blaster Offer, and then try to source other parts as and when I need them. I suspect I'll be fitting a zetec engine ( although I may well change my mind on this one) so it seems my budget of 10-12k is reasonably realistic.

wilkingj - 18/8/06 at 07:32 PM

My build was a fraction over £8k.

Includes a fully rebuilt (by me) Rover v8 with mild tuning
0-60 in about 4.5 Sec.

Nearly everything was new, except the running gear.
All new brakes and pipes etc etc.
However if you buy everything new off the shelf you could exceed my budget.
A lot depends on where you buy from and how much shopping around you are prepared to do. This makes a big difference.
Mine took 18 months including an operation on my wrist which stopped me for about 3-4 months.

I am 5ft 10 and 19 st
my Son is 6ft 5 and 19.5st.
Both of us fit in with ease, whats more can get out easily.
I am in Cambridge and could perhaps drive over to jollygreengaints by arangement.
The viento is very good even if a bit more expensive (larger). There are loads of 7's to choose from.
most of them I could get into easily, but not get out of easily. My upper body strength isnt what it used to be. Plus there is more weight to lift up now

Why not go to the TotalKitCar do at Snetterton at the bank holiday and get a ride round the track in one, its a manufacturers do showing off their cars on the track (I think). take a look at their website.

Also have a look at my website for some of the story and piccies, plus in my archive on here.

Coo... Wives and the budgets... yes I know... mine was not too pleased either.
But Hey... its a big boys toy, and they cost, but what a rush when driving them.
The Fun, The looks you get, the people that speak to you. The looks from other guys girls!!!. I told my wife they were just jealous of her, as they thought they sould be sitting in her seat (That worked well).

Best fun I have had in ages so far. Should have done this 20 years ago.

hi dann
got a velocity xt built and on the road 6ft 1in and 15 st with room to spare. live nr aylesbury. not quite a viento

Johnmor - 19/8/06 at 09:28 AM

Im afraid fitting an Alfa V6 is a one off job, had to engineer coversion plate and mountings myself, but it all works great , just hope the sierra clutch and type nine can take it.

There is bags of room in the chassis, too much almost.

Not SVA'd yet but application is in.
should get it just in time for the bad weather!!!

FlansS14 - 22/8/06 at 09:39 AM

I've got a Velocity and stickin a Sr20det in there, My budget is 5K but i might go a tad over... im Only 22 5"8 and 9.5stone so there's loads a room for me...

richard thomas - 23/8/06 at 04:56 PM

I'm 6'1" and 17 stone and i fit into my velocity OK although I do not have seat runners fitted....

Rich.

Agriv8 - 31/8/06 at 07:15 AM

Dan,

6'6" tall and 16stone.

I would be supprised if you don't fit comfortably in an MNR. I should be at donnigton if I can get my car back together in time.

Regards

Agriv8

simonk - 12/9/06 at 01:01 PM

My Viento owes me about £13k not including engine, and without screen, heater or wipers. Mind you, everything on mine except the diff and driveshafts is brand new or professionally remanufactured. I've not skimped either - Superlite split rims, Toyo R888s, Cobra seats, all the bespoke Luego bits like carbon dash, radiator etc. I had to buy a complete gearbox/bellhousing/clutch/flywheel assembly as the engine came off an auto 'box, and an Edelbrock 500 carb conversion and some shiny bits to lose the injection. Also had the sidepanels painted before fitting and have bought new alternator and starter.

I reckon that a high quality car could be brought in under £10k with careful attention to sourcing bits and not being as extravagant as me.........

Best of luck
Simon

hector - 12/9/06 at 05:36 PM

My Viento has cost a little over 6 grand at moment, just got tyres to get now and a few tidying up bits for SVA then time to get me appl in!
