Budget and general info...

Hello All,

Please can I have some advice? Having bought a copy of RC's book I'd like to build a locost style car as cheaply as possible, but would like to use one donor such as a Ford Sierra, and if possible would like it to have IRS. I've seen that the Velocity uses IRS and I can buy a DIY Chassis kit for around £250.00, does this mean that I then have to buy al subsequent parts from Luego, I know they are fantastic quality, but I just cannot afford to go this route. Or does anyone sell comprehensive, accurate plans for an IRS chassis? I really want to keep to a Sierra as the donor but need to keep the budget ridiculously tight. Any help towards getting started would be great. Sorry to waffle so much...

The locost irs diy kit is the metal all cut to size ready for you to weld up, so if your welding isnt great and you still have to buy a welder the best bet would be to buy the velocity chassis at 550 squid and then maybe make your own wisbones or just buy them from luego as well to make the job easier, from there you just build as per normal book locost.

If you are a masochist you can combine Ron's book and Tiger's and come up with an IRS design using the sierra as a single donor, (as I am doing), perfectly feasable but when you factor in the cost of materials and a welder there will be little difference in buying a prefabricated chasis.
If you want something different, design it yourself ! (bit of a challenge but very satisfying when it goes well).
If you're keen to get on the road ASAP then buying a chassis is the route to go.

Either way good luck.
