brake/accelerator cables fron go-karts seem quite useful. i'm pretty sure you could also shorten them more if you had to. look at the ones that zip karts use

they are expensive, but, renault/citreon/peugeot throttle cable kits have multiple end fittings, teflon liners & you trim to fit.
What about a halfords bike brake cable?

Vehicle Wiring Products do make your own cable parts in their motorcycle section. I have used the size 5 for my handbrake. I lttle blat with the
welder can put a useful blob on the end of the cable if you don't fancy soldering nipples on.

Little tip for cutting the bowden cable , use a sharp chisel , lay the cable on a block of metal and give the chisel one sharp tap with a hammer . Cutting with pliers etc often caues the cable to unwind.
