brake/accelerator cables fron go-karts seem quite useful. i'm pretty sure you could also shorten them more if you had to. look at the ones that zip karts use

was contempleting that but then that buggers up the nice crimped end

they are expensive, but, renault/citreon/peugeot throttle cable kits have multiple end fittings, teflon liners & you trim to fit.

Vehicle Wiring Products do make your own cable parts in their motorcycle section. I have used the size 5 for my handbrake. I lttle blat with the welder can put a useful blob on the end of the cable if you don't fancy soldering nipples on.

Little tip for cutting the bowden cable , use a sharp chisel , lay the cable on a block of metal and give the chisel one sharp tap with a hammer . Cutting with pliers etc often caues the cable to unwind.
