Ooh, do you know the rough age of your engine Paul? On the Nation Motor Heritage site it states they can only do the full certificates for up to 1989 but no mention of aging letters. My engine is just newer than that and I didn't fancy throwing £15 down the toilet if they cannot do that new.

Also, I wrote to Haynes Techical support. Got a very speedy and nice reply:

Dear Mark
Thank you for your email.

We do provide engine year of manufacture information free of charge to kit car builders for certain manufacturers where the information is available and researched. Unfortunately we have not covered this particular engine and we do not have the information you require in our library. I can only suggest contacting an owners or enthusiasts club for advice. Try www.rrr.co.uk to see if they can help.
I am sorry we are unable to help in this instance.

Got a letter back from the motor heritage centre stating the location year and month of manufacture for my RV8

Fits in with what the guy who sold me the engine said – August 1988

One more step closer to filling in an sva application.

Good news on my engine aging too!

After going round the houses a bit my conclusions are:

Haynes - they will happily help kit car builder to prove engine age on models they have researched, the 4.2 Range Rover hasn't been.

Nation Motor Heritage Centre - Couldn't help as the engine was too new. But they recomend speaking to LandRover (and after a second eMail he found the phone number for me too )

Don't phone LandRover customer services, post them a letter.
I received a letter back from them today stating that the engine was in "x" model that came off "y" production line on "z" date and therefore the engine will have been produced between "v" and "w" dates. Makes it a 1993 (not '89 as orignally suspected...)

Oh, I also phoned the LandRover number I was give by the Heritage Centre and he was very willing to help. He told me that someone had spoken to him yesterday about my engine so I should have a letter any day


But good news, I now have proof
