This is my first post on this forum. My names Chris, and I'm from Edinburgh.
I am in the early planning stages of my locost build, which will be mostly from a kit (unsure yet which manufacturer), but I wanted to know which is
best, live axle or IRS? Then I was going to ask which manufacturer. I know MK are good, but I dont like the dimensions of the car, so its down to
Luego or ST, unless anyone here can convince me otherwise?

In terms of which axle format is best it's really availability of donor and personal opinion here. Threads on this site have gone into which is
better but no real world answer has been arrived at. If you want to do donuts then live is better! If you base it on a Sierra then IRS. If you
can get your hands on a Cortina then that'll give you the front uprights and the rear axle in one go.
I'd agree with your MK analysis. I think it looks too wide at the front suspension area. Just an opinion.
Although I've not seen any ST's close up I am led to beleive that the quality of Luego is better and therefore obviously more money.
So far my co-builder and I have spent far too much on parts that we could've got from cheaper sources like a scrapyard. When (if?) we build the
second one we'll be sourcing/cleaning/reconning a lot more to keep the costs down. As an example we paid £200 for a pair of Cortina uprights.
They came with new bearings, discs and calipers and were painted but I feel sure that we could have got the same results ourselves a lot cheaper. The
problem was at the time we were going for speed and ease of build. Now 18 months later we realise that there are a lot of things that we
could've tackled without problem. We all learn as we go I guess.

agree with andyd there,ive just finnished an mk,think its good chassis and fits together soooooo well,luego is just as good,better in some places and very well made,stick to a kit that requires a seirra as a doner they are a lot easier to get hold of than cortinas or escorts,welcome to the nut house

Yep, I do want to do donuts. For recreational purposes I want to use the car for autotests. You know, fly up through a series of cones, couple of
donuts at the end and back down again, but I also want to try and develop some kind of rag/hardtop so I can use this as an everyday car as much, so I
take it IRS would be better for this.
