Crack in rear fibreglass panel - Can I leave it?
Steve Lovelock - 24/5/07 at 04:54 AM

Hi,

I fitted the rear panel last night and when I was riveting the lower rear edge to the chassis I noticed that there is a little crack from one of the wholes that I drilled to the corner and up the back panel about 3/4cm. The thing is what do I do about it? The panel is bonded and riveted in place now so I am not taking it off. There is little scope for movement but I suspect enough scope for the crack to be put under pressure over time. From above the crack is barely visible so I am not worried about the visual impact. Can I just forget about it?

Cheers
Steve

Im not sure but if you fill it, the sva man might struggle to fiond any reason to fail on that.

The only way to stock a crack is to drill a hole at the end of the crack.

Considering this sh*t this would cause I'd just leave it and keep an eye on it.

I mean 'stop' a crack.

Spelling's not the best with a hangover.

I would drill a small hole in the end of the crack, grind a V into the rest of the crack with a Dremel and wipe some gel coat into it. You could also use filler and touch it in with paint if it won't be too visible.

As said before...

Drill it, grind it and then fill it. If its bad, patch the back if you can.

Then put on any one of the chav Bilstein/Weber/etc stickers over the top !! Thats what we used to do on Mini's...!

Cheers

I agree with fesycresy advice, you could put a small mark with a perminate pen so you know how far the crack has got.. If it moves drill a small hole at the end.. If that fails to stop it then think about a proper fix..

Thank you, I can easily drill a hole at the end of it and grind a V into the crack without it showing as it is very small and at the bottom of the panel.

Just leave it. Honest.
