usually CV joints knock loudly, so doubt if its that, have you tried jacking it up and spinning the wheels, might be easier to locate that way.

Could be brake pads moving in the caliper? easy to check , just gently touch the brake pedal when driving, if the noise goes then check pads .

Joint failure (usually 1000's miles to go) is a very loud echo'y knock.
A rattle is usually something stupid like a stone caught somewhere.

Could be noise from the diff, most of the guy's on here suffer from it. It's fairly easy to check the Lobros, stick the handbrake on then try to turn the drive shaft back and forwards, if the joint has started to go you will get some movement in it. HTH Ray

Thanks for your suggestions, I have tried turning wheel "off the ground" but could not hear the sound, I will investigate further at the weekend, comforting to hear its not likely to be lobro joints, just hope it is something simple like pads moving!
