and the drive shafts have arrived, pic shows standard cosworth drive shaft and my mustang drive shafts, bit of a size difference,

saigonij - 7/8/07 at 03:55 PM

they got high flow cats built in, not cheap but i wasn't expecting cheap, cost £1k, do you think that was fair, front flange had to be made as he couldn't get them off the shelf.

saigonij - 7/8/07 at 04:09 PM

jon, can you go on messenger for a few mins please.

bj928 - 7/8/07 at 04:10 PM

had an email from Adam Wilkins (Features Editor) of which kit car, wishing to put some photos of the car in its rolling chassis stage, in the mag next to a v6 viento they are doing a feature on, and then he wants to do a full feature when its finnished, word must be getting round about the nutter in kent!!!!!

the uprights are from a ford 8.8 irs, as fitted to mustangs from 1999-2004 and other cars, the americans call them knuckles

Sorry haven't weighed the diff yet, the case is alloy, but the diff is big an weighs a bit, haven't got crown wheel and pinion yet, did you want the weight of the complete diff ready to run with everything in it.

mark-wiring - 8/8/07 at 07:14 PM

Well its getting there cant wait to see it all fitted

Simon - 8/8/07 at 07:28 PM

Yeah, only when you've got time I weighed Sierra diff and it was about 25kgs, Jag was about 47kgs, so depending on what yours weighs (and cost etc) and given the number of v. low ratios, that may be the way to go

Cheers

Simon

mark-wiring - 8/8/07 at 07:34 PM

Yeh when you can get the dam ratio's!!! (don't ask its a nightmare)

Angel Acevedo - 26/8/07 at 09:18 PM

any progress???

mark-wiring - 27/8/07 at 07:38 PM

Yeh loads (in my mind!!!!!!!)

Nothing at the moment, its off for its chassis mods tomorrow all being well i hope will update with pics when we have some

Angel Acevedo - 27/8/07 at 11:54 PM

Cheers...
I`m building confidence right now....

bj928 - 2/9/07 at 11:26 AM

some more pictures for you to enjoy, more to follow over the next few days

and the grade of steel we are using is better than original!!!!

saigonij - 2/9/07 at 12:51 PM

looking good john and mark. not sure on the mallet though - could you not get de-malletted calipers?

i see you have done loads more to the chassis.

can you guys take loads more pictures and post them up of the whole lot so far?

ian

jollygreengiant - 2/9/07 at 02:29 PM

I note from one of the photo's that you appear to have a built up diff now. So what ratio did you finally decide on.????

mark-wiring - 2/9/07 at 03:18 PM

John has all the pics on his photobucket account im sure he will make them avaliable to you Ian.

Diff still not complete its just the casing still.
We do have the diff unit but notthe crown wheel or pinion as yet struggleing to track a new one down of the required ratio, still planning on the 2.73 we will get it eventually................

saigonij - 2/9/07 at 06:01 PM

Mark,

had a look at johns photobucket - im just eager to see more.

also, have yo got any 2 pin ford connectors - the ones that go on backs of side repeaters, or for that matter, any 2 pin conenctor on the engine?

mark-wiring - 2/9/07 at 07:43 PM

nope dont have any not broken a ford for ages run out of bits been too busy doing the kit to worry about anything else.

Are you making me an offer i cant refuse for my tb's and megasquirt???

What other pics do you want to see mate? Give me details and ill take them for you.

Why not come up next weekend and have a personal look we should have it back with body work on!!!!!!!

[Edited on 2/9/07 by mark-wiring]

mark-wiring - 4/9/07 at 09:33 PM

Getting better now we have the body work pic's not that good but i did only take them on my phone.

Paradoxia0 - 4/9/07 at 10:37 PM

Now that is looking good!

...and how did you manage to hide that lump under a standard bonnet?? I knew the Viento engine bay was big - yours must be a tardis!

Mark

jollygreengiant - 5/9/07 at 01:56 AM

Sweet. Only minor modification to the fibre glass and yet it still looks right. I take it you still dropped the engine a little as per the pre trial fit at Newark?.

Looking good Mate.

saigonij - 5/9/07 at 09:20 AM

Mark,

my work blocks photobucket - can you upload them to the forum photo archive so i can see the pictures?

bj928 - 5/9/07 at 12:39 PM

no, engine at the same hight as newark, just droped the gearbox crossmember 2.75" once the bits are glassed in tonight you won't know its anything special under the bonnet, sweet!!!!

NeilP - 5/9/07 at 07:28 PM

Looks boring now just like mine - Shall we go for transparent hoods?......

mark-wiring - 5/9/07 at 08:12 PM

Transparent hoods and there was me thinking i had the stupid ideas pmsl.

Sorry Ian i was at work mate and i have only just got in from working on the car now and im sure you have seen them by now.

I was a little shocked myself now the gearbox is lowered and in the right place it actually fitted under the bonnet without much working out. Filling in the air scoop was a lets see what it looks like idea and its staying now coz we like it lol.

Some thing else has been discussed tonight that may lead to something a little diff for the front end but you will have to wait till we can try it out before im gonna tell you all about it unless John wants to chime in and say something...................................................

Just had an invite to be on a kit car mags stand at donnington and had to refuse as its not going to be in any fit state to be there which is a shame but hey ho next year will be worth the wait lol

bj928 - 7/9/07 at 03:34 PM

bugger me, woke up this morning in illinois usa, better find some more bits for the kit while i'm here, back in the uk on the 22nd, came out with just5kg of luggage, will be coming back at max weight.

saigonij - 7/9/07 at 04:02 PM

thought you might end up there fairly soon :-)

mark-wiring - 7/9/07 at 05:51 PM

Now lets be honest he skipped the country as its his 40th Birthday on the 8th and he thought i may have sorted a surprise party out.

Getting bits is an excuse a good one ill grant you but its an excuse lol

saigonij - 7/9/07 at 07:59 PM

its a shame we ALL ALSO brought tickets to america eh jon!!!!!!

bj928 - 18/9/07 at 01:17 AM

well guys i been getting loads of bits and bobs over the pond here, ordered the pedal box, gone for a tilton 600, http://www.tiltonracing.com/content.php?page=list2&id=8&m=b , should be delivered to me before i come home, already got the crown wheel and pinion i was looking for, got 2 sets in fact, been to the dodge dealer and got the pipe for the clutch, but it came with master cylinder and res, the pipe can't be removed from the master cylinder so i am going to have to use the viper master with the tilton pedal box some how, the clutch pipe and master even came ready primed with fluid, so i'm hoping i can get it back to the uk ok.

pedal box over here with delivery and the correct 2 master cylinders was around the 330 quid mark, from demon tweeks the same setup with delivery would have cost me 630 quid, my flight was 317 so the saving has almost paid for the flight, don't you love the prices in america

NeilP - 18/9/07 at 05:38 PM

Big John,

Glad your trip went well, you go the bits you wanted, exhausts are done, yahda yahda yahda...

mark-wiring - 18/9/07 at 07:20 PM

NeilP - 18/9/07 at 07:40 PM

Toe-in adjustment on the rear to boot - DROOOOOOL.....

Shurley shome metal required from the rear of the (inner) lower wishbone back towards the frame where the roll bar connects???? I know I'm a worrier but I'd hate to see you and BJ become a raspberry coloured centre to a metal pretzel if the volcanic quantities of torque you have decide to give the chassis a bitch-slappin'

Did I say lower - clearly meant upper, mi' lud....

[Edited on 18/9/2007 by NeilP]

mark-wiring - 19/9/07 at 07:00 PM

trust me neil there is more there than it looks very very strong well over engineered lol.

Toe adjustment was one of my stupid ideas along with quick camber adjustment too looking at caster quick adjust for the front now too but thats harder

bj928 - 20/9/07 at 05:19 PM

we got a good write up in the latest complete kit car mag, mark scanned it in and sent it to me in the US, the only bit they got wrong is the front and rear tyre sizes are the wrong way round, other than that, bloody good writeup

NeilP - 20/9/07 at 06:11 PM

I noticed it too and pulled Adam's leg about it - He's a busy lad ya' know!...

mark-wiring - 20/9/07 at 07:11 PM

Funny that i noticed that too but then hey i also have had chance to read about someone elses luego that has a very nice feture in complete kit car......................................

Well done Neil looking good as always mate even my wife was impressed and she dont really like kit cars

NeilP - 20/9/07 at 10:45 PM

[blush][/blush]

jollygreengiant - 21/9/07 at 06:38 PM

Good articles about both of you ( BJ & Mark AND Neil).

Keep up the good work.

mark-wiring - 20/10/07 at 03:31 PM

Just to keep you all updated here are some more pics of the progress

Simon - 20/10/07 at 07:06 PM

Mark/BJ,

Been wondering when you were going to update.

Firth of Forth springs to mind (and 4 years painting).

Did Luego bend the front hoop, as I want something similar that hugs the scuttle -gonna have a removable screen and roof (maybe doors too).

ATB

Simon

mark-wiring - 20/10/07 at 07:17 PM

no luego have done nothing since we picked the chassis up that was made by a good mate of ours Scott he is also in charge of all the welding and the improvements to the chassis as a whole.

Looking a lot better now and no were not taking that much time over it lol next update in 6 months pmsl

NeilP - 24/10/07 at 09:25 PM

Now that is what I call a strong chassis!

Still needs some holes in the floor pan for passenger drainage...

mark-wiring - 25/10/07 at 07:44 AM

No rubber pants are a must!!!!!!

bj928 - 1/11/07 at 05:50 PM

ready for powder coating, or maybe por15 not sure yet, its a bit different now to what it was at the newark show!!!!!

saigonij - 1/11/07 at 08:50 PM

mate, that looks awesome!!!!!!

bj928 - 2/11/07 at 06:42 PM

well thats the wheels on order, with the exchange rate so good i thought i would get them, 18 x 10 for the rear and 18 x 9 for the front, £230 the set of 4 including delivery to a container thats bringing them over.now thats cheap!!!!

this is a front, the rear has a bigger dish.

[Edited on 2/11/07 by bj928]

rickys2000 - 2/11/07 at 08:32 PM

How much extra weight do you think you have added to the chassis with all that extra material
cheers
ricky

bj928 - 2/11/07 at 10:45 PM

not to much weight been added, just looks alot, was more worried about having a stiff chassis that didn't twist the first time out on a set of slicks

bj928 - 21/11/07 at 08:02 PM

well it looks like the project is on hold for a while, the guy that i thought was a mate who did the welding is trying to charge me £3200 for the job, everyone who has looked at the chassis says its a good job but not worth that money, he was suppose to be doing it for mates rates as well, problem is, i have the chassis back, but him and his mate are keeping the rest of the stuff till i come up with the money, i didn't get a price to start with but you don't think a mate will try and stitch you up, he is saying he said 2k originally but i never heard him, he is also saying i change loads of stuff from his original quote, which i didn't, so until this is resolved project on hold, i have got the engine and box as well, but to replace all the bits they have will cost about 3k, i have given them nearly £1500 already, just got to work out what way to resolve this now.

oadamo - 21/11/07 at 08:32 PM

one of these should sort it out

omega 24 v6 - 21/11/07 at 08:35 PM

What a c*ck

Optimum Balance Products - 22/11/07 at 08:09 PM

Hi, the car is looking very good. A fair bit of work has gone into that, however £3k is a high price.

We have just done a beam axle conversion to an IRS for £2k and that had one hell of a lot of work.

Surely as a friend you can talk to him and come to some sort of agreement.

Best of luck,
Grant.

jollygreengiant - 22/11/07 at 08:23 PM

John & Mark, I know that you 2 are kind and gentle people, noble in the basic art of gentle verbal persuasion ( ) so I am sure that you will soon reach an amicable closure to this problem and be back on track with you build soon.

JGG

OH and if that doesn't get you results then drink him under the table and con him into giving it back.

Optimum Balance Products - 26/11/07 at 08:54 PM

Hi, any news?

bj928 - 26/11/07 at 09:51 PM

i'm seeing him at the weekend, problem is, i don't have a choice but to pay, but to make sure he don't have a nice xmas at my expence he not getting the money till after xmas, then there is the old saying, " revenge is sweet", it will cost him dear in the long run, i will make sure of that.

oadamo - 26/11/07 at 10:04 PM

tell him you will give him £500 for your stuff back take it or leave it. i bet he will take the money.

Revenge is a dessert, best served when cold.

tks - 9/1/08 at 06:15 PM

I think you are far better in any position that he is.

I would go to the police and state that someone has taken some parts of you and don't want to give them back.

with the proof of ownersship on your name (invoices etc. etc.) it should be easy to prove you are the legal owner of that stuff.

If the stuff is ours go for it!
I would make him ver very clear that there won't be any form of payment
if the stuff isn't giveing back very very soon.

Tks

Optimum Balance Products - 10/1/08 at 09:34 PM

Have you sorted this out yet?

mark-wiring - 10/1/08 at 09:37 PM

Yes it's getting there still stuck on finding a workshop so progress can be made on it

Robertf - 11/1/08 at 06:22 PM

This project is totally nuts.

Love it....

Optimum Balance Products - 13/1/08 at 05:11 PM

Hi, where are you based?

I may be able to help.

All the best,
Grant.

mark-wiring - 13/1/08 at 05:23 PM

Looks like it may be sorted soon tho as a workshop up the road from me is becomming avaliable soon i hope

Optimum Balance Products - 14/1/08 at 10:59 AM

Ok mate, all the best with that.

Keep in touch.

bj928 - 21/1/08 at 09:37 PM

[Edited on 23/1/08 by mark-wiring]

chunkytfg - 8/2/08 at 01:31 PM

any more progress?

bj928 - 3/3/08 at 05:28 PM

hi guys, thought i'd say hello, still looking for a workshop, missed a lovely one by 24 hours the other day, problem round this way is that most the workshops have been flattened and houses put up or are converted into flats, so there is a major shortage, its a nightmare, looking to rent a home now, but to find one with anything more than a single garage and no parking will cost me 800 a month, got most the bits to get the thing driving now, just need to put it together.

keep tuned

BJ

jollygreengiant - 3/3/08 at 06:56 PM

Ah, but will you be trying to bring it to Stoneleigh this year. You never know we could have working weekend on it maybe. Once you've fought of the crowds from starting it up.

rusty nuts - 3/3/08 at 07:18 PM

That reminds me, what did I do with my earmuffs??

The only person that we need to fight off from starting it is you clive lol.

If things dont improve the only thing thats going to be arriving at the show is maybe us not the car

Still im getting on with my escort while there is a lull in the kit car so im happy lol

You wont need them now any way the exhausts have been made

bj928 - 4/4/08 at 03:55 PM

chassis in for sand blasting and painting next week, hoping to get some sort of running chassis for detling as its my local, but if not yes it will be at stoneleigh ( with exhausts!!!!!!!! )

mark-wiring - 4/4/08 at 05:09 PM

Oh god im gonna be busy pmsl

NeilP - 4/4/08 at 10:22 PM

We definitely need to get the Viento orchestra trained up for Newark; Big John and Mark on the V10, Pete/Bec or Paul on the V8, me on the V6 and Clive on the 4C - Should make a delightful racket!...

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble finding a garage BJ - That's what you pay to have a view of the wet stuff matey

mark-wiring - 5/4/08 at 09:12 AM

Garage issue could be sorted although its going to take 6 weeks but i think we have finally found somewhere atlast.......

If we get it things should start to progress at a good rate of speed will post up some pics of the chassis when we get it back from paint and we will maybe be at detling but not to sure on that maybe newark is more like it and yes ill fit the engine for newark even if i have to take it back out again lol

mark-wiring - 7/4/08 at 09:21 PM

Chassis in for sandblasting and paint should have it back on friday fingers crossed

bj928 - 12/4/08 at 08:44 AM

got chassis back, if weather holds out till tomorrow the chassis should be sitting on wheels and have a few other jobs done, engine not going back in yet till the fuel/brake and some wiring has been put through the tunnel, photos to follow if weather holds

NeilP - 12/4/08 at 02:23 PM

Excited!....

saigonij - 13/4/08 at 08:09 AM

come on John and Mark - its 9am and you guys shoudl have been up hours ago doing work on the car and posting us pictures.....

dont bother with detling - not worth it. work on that car instead.

mark-wiring - 13/4/08 at 03:28 PM

No way was i getting up at 9 am breakfast is not till 10.30 on a sunday pmsl. Are these what you wanted to see??

]

Still lots to do but hey its a start lol

saigonij - 13/4/08 at 04:11 PM

looking good.

what the quality of the powdercoating like?

alistairolsen - 13/4/08 at 04:24 PM

Just looking thru the thread, what are the front and rear uprights off?

speedyxjs - 13/4/08 at 04:45 PM

Oooh Nice

bj928 - 13/4/08 at 04:49 PM

wilwood mustang II front uprights (rally design), rear are cobra mustang IRS like the picture below, comes with discs, calipers, hubs and shafts, but you do have to use a mustang 8.8 diff, you may be able to get shafts to use a 7.5 sierra/granada diff but you would have to look into that, also you can get uprated shafts if you need them straight off the shelf.

Paul (Notts) - 13/4/08 at 05:52 PM

Looking very good.

Paul

jollygreengiant - 13/4/08 at 11:38 PM

At this rate you'll have yours on t' road before me. Nice.

mark-wiring - 14/4/08 at 08:08 AM

Still lots to do and the lack of somewhere to do it is not good at the moment
but hoping thats sorted by the end of the month and we can crack on with it.

One issue to be solved is the front caliper mouting brackets but im chasing up about those today

bj928 - 14/4/08 at 05:49 PM

haven't mounted the arches yet but thought i'd see if they fit over the 10J wheels and 285/30 18 fitted to roll it around on, they fit perfect!!!!!

not bad for standard arches

darrens - 16/4/08 at 05:07 PM

that's gonna look efin ace!!!!!!!

speedyxjs - 16/4/08 at 06:20 PM

Ooooh that looks nice

Simon - 19/5/08 at 12:40 AM

BJ/Mark,

I think we're due an update

ATB

Simon

bj928 - 19/5/08 at 10:09 AM

updates will be up soon, waiting on a few bits from a few places, nothing much we can do till i get the bits. so you'll have to wait.

mark-wiring - 18/6/08 at 10:00 PM

Right update time lol.

Engine and box back in exhaust problem sorted (1 of them was shorter than the other!!!!!)

Some of the interior pannels done and fuel tank well under way.

Diff now put together and propshaft has arrived from the usa.

Now the problems;

Diff seamed to have too much backlash.
Turns out that i was wrong and its within tollerance i dont mind being wrong maybe im just used to a better fit.

Propshaft is a perfect length shame it was made with the wrong end flange for the diff (diff has a 4.25" bolt circle and i think the flange measured 3.5" got on to the guy in the usa funny he is called Mark and pointed this out to him and he confessed his mistake and the right flange is in the post god knows if ill get it on time for the wekend fo fingers crossed.

Thats about it for now i think lol

looks like i may have found a workshop of a sort, well at least a place i can work on car and leave it up on trestles, its the size of a double garage and will be usable for about 2 months, so will have to hit into it for the 2 months and get it at least drivable.

That'll be because he hasn't had it running lately. Nice to hear it's still work in progress.
