I am struggling to find the right combo of bracket to fit my new aalternator on the top right side of the engine. I need to support the unit from the bottom as I dont have room to let the unit 'hang' from the SD1 bracket as it will foul the chassis when the engine moves on revving me thinks. I have an SD1 and P5 bracket but cant figure out how to do this without extensive mods or fabricating new bracket. I have seen a couple of cars at shows that seem to have done this successfully- any tips on what I need to do?

I run a Rover V8 using SD1 front cover and altenator mount in my Viento.

I did suffer from the altenator fouling the chassis originally, but then I bought a shorter altenator belt [G10AV1125] (quite tight to get on as the altenator is pushed against the water hose while fitting) but once on and tensioned it fits perfectly not fouling the chassis or water hoses.

I used the standard sd1 bracket, but a small denso alternator, fits a treat with enough room for the bottom hose and clearance from the chassis.

Range rover bracket puts the alternator at the top to clear the steering box, SD1 hangs it below.

While I'm not using a Rover alternator, I took measurements from a power steering pump bracket (mounted bottom n/s of engine) and made an alternator bracket to suit.

I now have the alternator mounted nice and low, and have loads of space above the engine.

A good reason for fitting the alternator down on the n/s is to get it away from the exhaust headers. Alternators don't like getting too hot.

Stuff all the rover brackets.

Its a neat solution if a little expensive (abt £40).

Or Make one like I did. Hard part is aligning the pulleys. I left mine a bit sirt and packed out with a couple of washers to fine tune the alignment.

Then just go and buy several fanbelts (keep the reciepts to get your money back later) to check for size.

Also AK cars at Peterborough do a bracket for their Cobra.
