Thinking of ditching the sierra calipers fronts and backs . Anyone any advice/experience on suitable aftermarket units?
willwood seems to be the usuall upgrade
alloy 4 pots with solid disks and pads about £220 ish
and rear calipers from willwood again with 4 pots with a hanbrake mech not sure on price though
thinking of getting some willlwood fronts for mine after i get it on road but im sticking with sierra ones till its tested etc
Searched on some of the other forums and wilwoods didn't out with universal admiration so I'm a bit confused .
How are you getting on with the sierra ones as I'm having a nightmare with mine as they just keep leaking every so often. The latest leaks keep
coming around the bleed nipple threads .I've changed the nipples for Ford ones but they still keep leaking.
Some people don't like this trick but.... a little PTFE tape on the threads works for me....
I know PTFE tape isn't recommended by brake caliper manafacturers as being 100% brake fluid proof but I'd rather have tapped nipples than
suddenly realising I've run out of brake fluid!!

I purchased the new nipples from my local Ford dealer so should be the correct nipples for the units. I'll need to check for damage to the
caliper cones!
definately not bottoming out so no problem there.
Check there is no crap in there, preventing the bleed screw from sealing properly.
as yoou know the seal is made via the cone.
paint the nipple cone with some engineers blue or a permanent marker then screw in dry, then unscrew.
You should see a ink rubbed off. It it is continuous, the nipples should seal, if not they they won't.
Unless you want to buy new calipers, you will need to recut the calliper cone face.
I've never done it but have cleaned them up by twirling fine wet/n/dry or maybe by using a drill but I suspect that may not be the correct angle
or else you may not be able to keep the drill square.
Yep Just confirming my thoughts and putting off the inevitable.
B%^&*r I hate brake fluid !!!
vauxhall astra MK5 alloy rear calipers and Hi-spec 4pot fronts (wilwoods dont have dust seals, Hi-specs do) see photos!
