Gear change extention (Type 9)
Numb nuts - 16/9/08 at 08:26 PM

The Velocity I am impatiently waiting to be delivered has had the gear change extention adaptor removed.
The gear change is to far away to be a comfortable reach unless your built like a gibbon!
Unfortunately I do not know the last owner to ask what it was or where to get a replacement from.
What type of adaptor can I use??

Have you seen the price difference?!

Is one a better bit of kit?
Is that why one is so much dearer?
Or is it something to do with one being promoted by Westfield!!

I think you'll find they are one and the same.

I've even seen it sugested that they are made by the same manufacturer. The RD one is all you'll ever need. The Tiger one would fit too and brings the lever further back still. Not such good quality though - at least to look at.

Do you have access to a lathe?

LINKY

It's my DIY "el Cheapo" gearshift extension... useful if you have more time than money... and it works very well!

Oh - and it gives you a "quick shift" as well.

Second Davids extension and quickshift, mine cost me less than a pound and that was for a new plastic saddle on the selector . One mod that might be worth doing to it is to tap the gear lever securing bolt holes rather than use nuts

Mel,

I thought of doing that - but decided not to as (a) there's not really enough meat in the baseplate to allow more than 3 or 4 threads, and (b) the gear-lever's base is a stamped moulding so it really needs something under it to support it. Oh - and I'm too lazy anyway!
