Engine Identity - How do I find out when it was made?
The Simmonds - 12/2/09 at 03:42 PM

Hi there,

Just filling in the SVA application and there is a question asking for the date when the engine was made. It's a 1.6 sierra pinto and I have managed to obtain various numbers that were printed on the engine:

DUO2270
70HM6015AA
E1.6S
T12

Do any of these mean anything to anyone? Or does anyone know how or where I can identify the age of manufacture?

Thanks,

Matt

go to the Burton power website. There you'll find the entire engine number reference charge thing for Ford and an explaination of how to use it.

Nice and simple even I managed it unaided

engine #: DUO2270 = Oct. 1983

Check THIS out, from your engine number I would say the DU at the front puts it at Oct 1983 as said.

Go to Burtons website they have a catalogue with the year and month.
The engine number first two letters is the identifier.

Excellent!

This site has once again proved itself to be unbelievably useful. I only asked the question 2minutes ago!

Cheers everyone!

Go to Burtons website....

dammit.

Order the catalogue, then you can take that along to SVA / DVLA inspection to prove it to the inspector as well.... Also good tuning guides in there.

Alternatively, write a nice letter to Ford asking them to verify the engine number and date of manufacture and they will (free of charge) write back to you confirming the details - the SVA/IVA man will love it

6015 is Ford code for engine block
AA will indicate capacity
T12 is block casting code

October 1983, I was born then ^__^

I did this, faxed a quick note to Ford and the info arrived through the letterbox the next day.
