Noticed the diff casing on the seven was looking a little moist where the front oil seal was leaking. Pulled out the fill plug to check the level and
it looked like this.
Drained it into a jam jar that now resembles an EP90 glitter globe of gear shards. Refilled the diff and ran the car, no whines or backlash!
Bit strange, it’s a 60,000 mile 3.62lsd that’s never been apart since I took it out an xr4x4. And it’s had several thousand miles on it in the seven.
hmm
Your planet gears are probably disintegrating. Thats what mine was like before I had it rebuilt.
get the back cover off and have a proper look
If that's all it's lost in 60,000 miles there's plenty left, don't worry about it.
I,m with Pete
This mess may have been created in the first month it was used 15 years ago, the magnet has done its job thats all.
old BL cars with shared engine and gearbox oil turned out stuff on the bung all the time, just fill and forget
