looking for a lathe.

Yep as title I am on the look out for a quality compact lathe. Ive been out bid on three in the last week and missed out on one I had shown an interest in at a local farm. There seems to be loads well under my budget if I can travel a 300 mile round trip but that isn't going to work for me.

I am wanting something with a swing of 9"~10" and 18"~20" between centres is plenty.

Metric Screw cutting so power feed, and cross feed would be nice as well.

Did I say I want quality I don't want Chinese-- Warco, Chester, Clarke, Axminster ect. Been there.

What would do just nicely is a Viceroy Tds (with metric screw cutting) Or a Boxford Aud, Bud.

A Harrison L5 or 140 is going to be to big.

I can live with 3 phase as inverters are easy to get these days even if they are Chinese.

I am located Spalding Lincolnshire, around 20 miles from the A1 and as the above is going to be 200kg+ as near as possible would be good.

What you got ?

Have you tried http://www.homeworkshop.org.uk/ its free to post adverts so got to be worth posting a wanted ad if there isn't anything currently on there that's suitable.

No but thanks I will keep an eye on it.

Wouldnt it be cheaper, and easier to change the motor for a single phase one?
Less to go wrong as well..
3 Phase lathes can come up quite cheaply just because they are 3Phase.

You used to be able to pick up a lathe cheap because it was three phase. Now inverters are cheap and easy to get there is very little saving to be had on a like for like lathe.

They don't make them like they used to means demand is higher than supply.

Isn't there a school clear out in the for sale section with a lathe?

big_wasa - 18/11/13 at 10:13 PM

Yep but a 500 plus mile round trip.
