blast cleaning

Hi All.

I am thinking of using some Techline satin black heat shield paint. However it says in there tech spec that the parts must be blast cleaned using Aluminium oxide or fine Silica, and not glass beads or grit etc. I am in the SW and all the people I have spoken to do not use these products . Any body know some that does. I do get to the Oxford area quite regularly so that's a possibility also.

Its an exhaust manifold which is very near to the rear cockpit wall and even with a heat shield this season has crisped it. The coating is a ceramic based one as far as I am aware and does actually reduced the temp emitted. Application is critical and whilst not an arm and a leg , you dont want it coming off after you have sprayed it. You can get similar coatings done professionally, but you are talking about £250. So in true Locost spirit , thought I would have a go myself. I am also going to use some Zircotec heat shield sheet which gets very good reviews.

I bought some aluminium oxide grit from Machine Mart some time ago. If you have access to a grit blast gun you can do it yourself.

Many thanks for this, will have a look.I have a feeling that the compressor I have is not big enough it has quite a decent tank and runs at 7cfm?
