Evening all, Some time ago i asked about how to go about making my lights switchable on my R1, using the R1 loom, as the lights come on with ignition.
It was suggested that I run the feeds to the lights through relays and switch the relays from the dash switches (Savage switches).
I have bought some micro relays but am unsure as to what i should put on each terminal of the relay ie: source, power, switch etc.
Heres a link to the relay im using below the main picture is a link to the diagram of the relay. Means nothing to me tho!
Any ideas?

to close the contacts, you need to apply 12 V to 86 and 0 V to 85.

for example 12 V to 86 and 85 to one end of a swith, the other end of the switch going to 0 V.

note that the positive voltage must be applied to 86 due to fitted snubber diode ( the black triangle with bar)

and the high current device is connected to either 30 or 87.


for example 12 to 30, 87 to say a lamp and other contact of lamp to 0 V.

mondeos are full of these relays and holder/bases

Thanks for the replys, Just to be clear you when you say take the other end of the switch to 0 V do you mean earth?

This may help you but also need to know the number of your pins which can found using the link under the picture of the relay in your link in the original post.

Obviously substitute the fog lams for what you need and amend the fuse rating too.

0V = negative (-) = negative earth in a car with an alternator

NO!!!!!

That diagram is wrong for your relay - see what I said about the snubber diode.

If the relay has one fitted, and yours has, you cannot wire 86 to 0V and 85 to positive or you will have a short circuit.

IT MUST BE WIRED AS I STATED EARLIER.

swap over the 85/86 in the diagram and all will be well.
