hey i am new here (very new) and was wanting some advise. does anyone know about the TJ locust. i know its wooden in places, but what parts. do you know what donner(s) are used.
i was asking for i have seen a prt built one. any help at all would be good.

do you know if it would be possible to add to the chassis and pannel it in alluminum. i dont like the idea of wood on my car. i know its used elsewhere, just a personal thing

In answer to your last question:

Yest it is possible to build a chassis and pannel it with aluminium - It is what LOCOSTs are. It would be a difficult option with the ladder frame of the LOCUST though.

In my humble opinion I would forget the LOCUST idea and join the ever growing band of loonatics on this forum and build a LOCOST instead -wood is great for loads of things like wardrobes and bonfires and shelves and stuff but not for building cars!

cheers, there is not much detail about the chassis avalible, but after that i think i will look elsewhere and build one or get a kit - thats going to be fun after reading previous posts about different kits

well i think i would join up the steering with string for the full go cart effect then. any ideas on the cheapest way into this malarky. i am looking for a started project as money is tight and i am not a good welder

How do you fix the rear axles in those locusts, same as we did with trolleys when we were kids ie partly knock in a 6 inch nail then bash the ends over the axle.

after extensive work skiving i have found information, possibly. they have a ladder frame (could be useful for geting to branches when sourcing body pannels) and all big heavy bits attatch to that. then you surround it in wood with aluminum on top of that.

If you look at the project in the long term, which is what it is, and finance each stage as you come to it it will be less of a burden. Find a cheap donor to strip while you look for a chassis or source some parts in preparation if you see them at the right price. Look at your budget and see if it is realistic, you don't want to get half way through and wonder where it all went.

if a wooden chassis is good enough for a marcos ? thing is wood doesnt suffer from fatigue so will alst a lot longer if its cared for !!!

Theres a chap selling remanufactured marcos chassis in sweden , they look groovy as hell - but why bother building one from scratch now there are so many better and probably cheaper alternatives to consider
