Post a pic of your locost and cost ?

Completed 2001, £3500 but £1500 in engine, could have used free doner engine, £250 on seats £450 on dash so could have cut it down a lot.

approx £4000 up to now.......

£900 for engine (triumph 955i)
£700 for quaife reverse box

£5500, Including donor and EVERY nut bolt and washer, I have kept a list of every penny spent.
+ about £440 for SVA, registration, insurance, and 6mths tax.

£5500 to date. Got everything, just need to find time to put it all together. Spent more than planned on wheels and engine, but never mind

A few pence less than £3k

Big extras are: £300 brakes/hubs, £350 shocks, £350 wheels, £700 engine & £200 seats.

If I had used a full donor I would be under £1k easily as steel & ali were less than £300.

Mine cost £1000 on the road.

Now I'm going to let you into a secret, so listen carefully.

You hardly ever look at the guages, so long as the seats aren't uncomfortable you don't notice them either, it's nice to have a £6000 engine, but the speed limit is the same with a free one.

What's it looks like?, Well, that's for others to decide, but I guarantee you that you can only see the top of the front wings when you're driving it.

So who are you building for?

You or them?

The other way to approach it is to think of it as the old time/money equaition.

You can have it today if you've got the money OR you can collect and build as things come together. Everything comes to he who waits.

Free donor car? Check
£10 for all the steel? Check
Numerous components for favours? Check
etc.

How long you got?/ How much can you afford?

Mines cheap because it was a challenge, not because I couldn't afford a Westie or a Cateringvan - I could.

If the guy with a £28,000 Caterthing is having more fun than I am then good luck to him, 'cos I'm having plenty!

One quick tip to budget builders, don't use mild steel for exhaust - they look like this after a week (even with heatproof paint). I'm remaking mine in stainless, and polishing. And making new ally side panels

Mine cost around £5k. maybe as much as £5500 once legal and insured.

Agree with Simon about the exhaust... mine's painted steel and has gone brown very quickly. A new exhaust is currently in construction from stainless.
