Ford C.D. changer help.
Russ-Turner - 13/5/08 at 10:08 PM

Hi all, long time no post. I have recently swapped my Mk1 Golf cabriolet (regretting it now the sun is out!) for an Escort GTI. Which is great except for it doesn't have a C.D. player. Just this standard nasty Ford tape player. Before I get onto this audio malarkey let me just say that I don't know a subwoofer from a Subway sandwich. How do I fit a c.d. changer to the model in the photograph, and what sort will fit it? Any help appreciated, thanks.

if you can get a ford badged one of the same shape and size all the wiring on the plug is the same

Yuo could try to find a CD from an Escort that had a factory fitted CD player (But you would need a security code). The other option is to fit a standard CD player and a blanking panel to make up the difference in size. Something like this.

Look for one of these and it should hook straight up to your head unit. Ebay/car boot sales have got to be the way to go!

i'd personally go for a standard ford cd headunit.

all the blanking plates for escorts are pretty crap and by the sound of it, you're not after bells and whistles.

for an actual changer, you can either source a ford cd changer, or buy a sony t69 changer and adaptor harness from a car audio shop. the sony option is just one from a list but i know it works. you can also get an mp3 version of the changer at extra cost

can you not just plug a multi changer unit in the boot, or where ever it prewired to.

i assumed that they are prewired for this and having a head unit which is also a cd chanfer comptable it is case of plug and play,

I've got the same and recently added a Sony 6 CD changer, sits under the passenger seat. If I remember correct it was about £110 and comes with a adapter box to allow it to work with the Ford head unit...Works really well and all the steering wheel and front panel buttons function correct.

The Ford CD changers are unreliable.
No disc error is common.
I would go for another make that is adaptable.
