Probably stolen then, you pays your money takes your choice.

Yorkshire engines said once that even engines off insurance companies ie stolen recovered come with a new number stamped on.

I'd be very cautious i think.

Depends what you are doing with it.

If its for a car yet to be registered it will be a bit of hassle.

If you are replacing another similar R1 engine then you just put the old engine numbers on the new one and grind off the old ones.

Of course it may not be legal but when I was registering my car with a pinto without an engine number I got a 2.0l block from the scrappy, stamped the engine number on mine and ground the old one off. As long as there isnt 2 blocks with the same number in existence and you are not trying to make the engine seem something its not I dont see the problem.

Unless it can be proven to be legal I wouldn't touch it. If there was no market or a reduced market for stolen motorcycle parts/engines than less motorcycles would be stolen.
I won't touch fenced gear because you need to think of the victims of the crime, stolen motorcycles cost the insurance industry which in turn adds cost to all insurance policy holders particularly the victim of the theft who not only looses their pride and joy but their no claims also.

I know the engine you are talking about and i havnt bought it
he also has a 08 gsxr 1000 and a 08 zx10 all have no numbers on

also its not cheep you will then need a ecu to run engine anything from £300 to £600 possibly other parts as well

it has an ecu + loom.tb's but no key or ignition. ithink £500 would secure it too. so think its cheap. am gonna give it a miss though.
not the same engine malc. but think something is not quite right with it.as he says he bought it from breakers an numbers were off
