Ok have used the search facility and although there is good info i cant seem to tie it all into one coherant lump sooooo:
rebuilding our Race Avon into a road going GTA and although our Race package engine is reliabl;e its just not road use friendly so considering some
options. Original plan was to use and ST170 bottom end with forged LC pistons and our existing Zetec big valve head and an eaton M62 supercharger but
my worry is that the close ratio straight cur Type9 may not take too kindly to having loads of torque pout through it.
So my mind started thing of possible alternatives and volvo with the same supercharger seems a possibility but i have some questions:
1. Exactly what volvo engine should i be looking for? i see references to white and red but these mean nothing to me :-|(
2. In terms of pohysical size how does a volvo setup compare to a zetec?
3. what gearbox options would i have that wont mean chopping the chassis? ie same sort of size as a type 9?
4. Can the standard throttle body be used with aftermarket ECU? I have a shiney new DTA S40?
5. Do i want a 4 or 5 cylinder engine? Looking fior a 2.0 litre but would a 2.3 be any better?
Any more info greatly received.

Whats the spec of your current gearbox ?
Straight cut type 9's are pretty strong tbh
Just trying to save you a lot of work
its a tranx straight cut close ratio type 9
Ta
speak to jeffw he just managed to kill his bgh type9 with his supercharged bighead low comp zetec.
Exactly why I'm looking at alternatives
Maybe, 5cyl 2.4 turbo 20v from a T5 coupled to a 760 gearbox or see if you can find a wentworth volvo 960/760 as they used turbo'ed engines but only low pressure so you may have to get a different engine management. gearbox shouldn't be a problem but the engines are a bit large and angled a bit so measure first.
