Zetec Power Question
coozer - 31/5/06 at 07:52 PM

Ok, 2.0L Zetec. Standard as removed form Mondeo.
With bike carbs and a nice flowing exhaust what kind of power can I expect. I just want to know if its viable to fit a standard engien with the above mentioned mods and get a decent poer figure out.
Would expecting 140bhp be asking too much?
On the other hand, as in later, after SVA, how much is requiered to get the Zetec up to 200bhp?
Anyone else done it like this?

A 1.8 with bike carbs and a decent exhaust will do nearly 150bhp so I'd of thought you'd be laughing!

As you can probably tell I want a cheap install form an old pre 95 engine to get me through SVA then in the long run upgrade the motor.
Initially I was stuck on a BEC having owned one before (Striker ZX9R).
However big power and torque from a 2L blue oval is catching on. The swapability and, at the moment, cheap zetecs are tempting.
Pinto's and crossflows have had their day for me...

I've had a lot of work done on my 2L Zetec engine & got 241bhp on the dyno. This was very peaky & we've subsequently swung the cams to give give a much better torque curve but maxing at 221bhp.

200bhp route is normally done by going for cam change and gas flow/manifold matching the head. Cost about £1K if done by a well known tuning company. No bottom end work required if using with a rev limit of 7K, then ARP bolts needed..about another £100 with new gasket.
