Scottish Engine Specialists
oliwb - 27/11/06 at 08:39 PM

Hi wondering if anyones got any good leads on engine specialist in Scotland....the closer to Aberdeen the better. Basically I'm after flywheels being lightened, cranks, con-rods and pistons balanced etc and possibly some porting....planning on having the cams reground (probably by cat cams who have had good write ups) It's for a 2L zetec engine by the way....also any leads on good cheap suppliers of various bits would be great too...eg gaskets, piston rings ARP bolts etc etc....I'm only planning on doing this once and am pacing myself so I can spread the cost so I really want to get it right! Cheers Oli.

PS.
I do know of one place called agar or aga or something in Dundee I think who are supposed to be OK anybody any experiences???

I'll second that, Agra Engineering is the place to go.
They built a BDA for me many years ago, top outfit.

Cheers

Alex

Cant think of a good engine specialist in the Aberdeen area but I know AGRA have a good name, just a bit further away.

PS dont send it to AGA theyll cook it and cover it in stove enamel.

Thats the one! Do you know if they've got a website at all?? I think they're based in Dundee, any idea where?? Might have to give them a call and see how much its all gonna set me back! ££$$££....urgh!

Cooking engine?? Oven enamel....could be a good look....now imagine if you could find an AGA badge from somewhere and rivet it onto the block....how cool....Oli.

PS.
Factory sponsors anyone?

Hi Oli what about Walden engineering in Aboyne (I think) I believe it is now owned/run by Barry Clark the rally driver son of(clarke comercials aberdeen).
Walden
Or precision engine specialists in Elgin
Precision
The Hotrod in the walden photo is a mates ex race car. He dealt with them before the business changed hands.
Precision in Elgin was the prefferred (sp) choice of the Inverness area hotrod drivers (Pinto's).
I've never dealt with any of them myself as such. The B.I.L deals with (Edinburgh area "Engine services roslin" ) .
Most of the knowledge with these guy's is with the superior XE engine but they may be able to offer you an idea of where to go/get info for the Zetec.
Hope this helps.
Oh and Agra have a dark dingy workshop in Banff (harbour area) as well.

Cant swear to it but i put a lancia twin cam in to their sister company in Aberdeen for a rebor.
Got the engine back, rebuilt and discovered he mixed up 40 thous" and 0.4mm, had to get the bolck sleeved as he had bored byond he largest piston availiable.

Not impressed, but that was a few years ago.

Pistons & Components in Glasgow should be able to sort you out with all the bits (find 'em on yell.com).

West of Scotland Engineering in Yorkhill, Glasgow also do engine building, but I've also heard good things about AGRA.

not wanting to give out bad press

but a few years back a mate of mine put a reno 5 head in to agra to be preasure tested

ended up "they decided to skim the head snaping the water pump bolts in the process so needed a new water pump , billed him for over £150 .

all he asked for was a preasure test.

may be better with something less boyracer-ish

just my 2ps wurth
