Cycle wings
Hi all
It appears the standard cycle wing provided for the Viento will not meet the width requirement for the recommended 205 tires, grrr
The wing is 210mm overall and given that the 205 tyre including wall is around 220 its gonna fail IVA ( not impressed) , even with the edge bead its
around 215mm
IVA is fairly clear ,
"The wheel guard must cover the full breadth of the tire throughout the required dimensions”
Any suggestions for where to buy basic cycle wings, the car is yellow and black so black wings will be ok
Thanks in advance

I've just put my Viento wings on my Mk with 195's they are only just wide enough for them.
There is a guy on on Ebay based in Lincoln he makes all sorts of styles. He also does some wet lay carbon and I had him make me a flat sheet for the
boot top.
Mk also do a variety.
Its the diameter that may be an issue to look for. Although the viento wings look fine on 15's

These are the ones I held back for the Viento instead.

I did think of getting some wheels and tyres off Gumtree, but its just the hassle , idealy 195 x 16 or 15 would ok
still looking at couple of hundred quid for wheels i dont need!
CBS used to do wings but no longer
maybe find some somewhere

the dax rush uses 205 wide tyres on the front - there are a few places doing knock-off cycle wings these days (most look like a strait copy)
these ones say they are 230 wide:

i had 205 tyres on my locost for 10 plus years, and they were AWFULL
When i went to 185 on all four corners, what a transformation, from a car that didnt want to to stay on the road, nor corner, to a car that i could go
round small size roundabouts at 60 mph
205 tyres need an awful lot of weight over them to make any form of traction on the road,
Just saying, as ive been there, and worn the hat to prove
steve

When I built my Viento back in 2006 I had the same problem so i cut them in half and widened they by fibreglassing them, painted them up and job
done!!

On my first Viento I had 16 x195 of the front (old Ford wheels ) and got through SVA, but was a close call
I reckon I'll get some blck cycle wings and ensure I've got the required cover.
As for weight, well the Viento is no light weight, reckon I'll be close to 850 kg with fuel and driver so 205s at around 19lbs pressure should
be ok

Remember the photo in "the" book of Ron single handedly lifting the chassis ?
You can't do that with a Viento
I am hopping to get mine sub 750kg wet but with out my arse in it.
My zetec indy is 600kg wet

That’s because it’s so much larger than most 7s and built for the “ larger” driver!

My last viento was 810kg wet, thats was with the alfa v6 , this one may be a little lighter but can't be much
I'll see how it goes, luego proposed axle weights of 750 rear and 500 front just to make sure
I had a Lancia Itegrale , it was around 1300kgs with 200hp and was no slouch , so I'm sure the viento will be ok
Just ordered wings of Ebay, as per recommendation, thanks
John
