Gaz Shocks Loose
Just fitted my Gaz Shocks tonight and the bush holes in the shocks are bigger than the 12mm suspension bolts leaving some small play in the bush. Has
anyone experienced the same thing?

try a 1/2 inch bolt instead slightly bigger

I was trying to avoid drilling ot the suspension bracket holes especially as I have just had some spacers turned up with 12mm clearance holes and
bought the 12mm bolts. Looks like I wrongly assumed that the shock bushes would be the correct diameter when supplied by the old Luego.

you have shocks to take a 1/2" bolt. Gaz do sleeves to fit these to enable the fitting of 12mm bolts.

Yip, mine are sleaved to 12mm

Not unless you want to wear your bushes out! They will rattle about and gradually sh*g the sleeve.

Are GAZ shocks 1/2" as standard? I have been fitting mine, but didn't notice a lot of play. Now I am worried!

but for gooodness sake! 1/2 inch is 12.7 mm!!! that means 0.7mm extra!
for a sleeve, the thickness of the material would have to be .35mm to get 12mm and even a bolt has its tolerance...
not mentioning that with time, a .35mm thick tube will wear in less than it takes me to say c*NT....
so, really, what is better... making a mess of the suspension (a temporary fix) or having to replace the bushes every 1500 miles? anyway, we will have
to replace them with metric sizes... so whats the point in spending unnecessary money in making such thin sleeves (which will need the use of a lathe
and i suppose 80% of us dont have the priviledge of owning one and in the end these will last three seconds!)

no money spent. i emailed GAZ and they said they would send some in the post for me.
when i get them ill look and see if they are better with or without.

Mine were fom Gaz, got them at a show. Loctited them in. Yes they are thin walled but they won't wear out.
Do not fit the shocks with an undersize bolt!! The bushes in the shock end will eventually hammer themselves to death.

Hi STD bush sizes from GAZ AVO PROTEC are 1/2" or 7/16".
Most locost manufacturers use 1/2" bushing with 12mm bolts and in some cases in the suspension also. (It is worth everyone checking what they
have) 
Other manufacturers such as westfield use 7/16" for both dampers and suspension.

Some Vauxhall and VW models use a sleeve in the lower suspension arm bushes, if you get stuck try your local dealers?

Exactly what I did. I rolled up a brass shim from a sheet, and sleeved the bolt. I had 12mm holes on the chassis, and 1/2" eyes on the shocks.
Got them from Ebay, and they are great. No problems, and my fault for not checking before I bought them.
However, a small sheet of thin Brass Shimm did the trick, they havent been a problem, and have done 3k miles so far.
Thickness of the brass is 1/2 the difference between 12mm and 1/2", just cut to size and wrap around the bolt.
Simple solution.
Some places you cant drill out the chassis holes to use 1/2" bolts. Especially when you have all the body fitted.
1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Why Can't all manufacturers be this supportive.
I called GAZ and they explained that they supply different sizes and are sending some 12mm to me free of charge.
Absolutely spot on! A++++ for GAZ
